I'm purchasing a new BC and am considering the aforementioned two. After reading lots of posts on Bc's and what you out there suggest for booth all around use and travel, it sounds as though its one of these two:
  • Zeagle Escape
  • Halcyon Eclipse
What do you suggest? I live in Michigan and do all fresh-water dives in the Great Lakes for wreck diving, and local lakes for fish and just plain fun. Price is not an object because I trust it will last for many years of use, just as the rest of my gear.
Thanks,
-=ben

Those are are about as similar as an SUV and a convertible:biggrin:
If you plan on doing wreck penetrations, definitely go with the Halcyon, but take a course first.

If there is usch thing as a piece of dive gear that will never be replaced, I haven't found it. If you are just starting out, and want something comfortable and versatile zeagle makes an excellent BCD. The other guys were right saying that the two are uncomparable. The zeagle also has an excellent weight integration system. Most people don't turn them away once they try them...

Except pretty much all of the people who try the bp/wing after they have a Ranger. Why do you think there are so many Rangers on eBay? ;)

BTW, I voted for "I'm happy with my Ranger!"

If I voted now, it would be for something else..

Some divers are more comfortable with the idea of a BCD similar to what they trained on. Especially people that are not diving doubles that will have to wear the belt vs. throwing it in a pocket. Don't worry I agree with the BP&W as I dive it. Some people are overwhlemed with the appearance of the backplate and the technical diving it is associated with.

If the divers recomending the Halcyon are DIR divers. Then you'll know why they recommend it. Take the advice with a grain of salt.
You need to know what kind of diving your going to do. If it basic open water or outside Wreck with no penatration. If your not diving DIR and you want a PB and wings there are lots out there to chose from. Do more shopping and decide what kind of diving your going to do. I use a PB and wing for Cave diving but I use a Zeagle Escape for my open water dives. There's nothing wrong with either . It's going to depend on the type of diving your going to want to do. For general dives the escape has everthing you will need to be comfortable in the water. For tec dives you'll have to configure the set up the way you want it . Even if that way is DIR.
As everyonre here knows I'm not PRO DIR so forgive my bias.
Good luck with what ever you choose.

There are scores of people diving bp/wing setups who aren't DIR. Myself included. I know more peoplw ho dive bp/wings who *aren't* DIR than people who are.

Speaking of DIR though, there's a reason the bp/wing is DIR and nothing else is. It's just better. ;)

He's talking HALCYON. There are other brands and I said he should shop some more if he wants to go the PB and wing route.
I also said I ware one when I cave dive or did you miss that point too. Just like differant BCd there are differant style PB/Wing set up.
There are ABS, ALuminum and SS. He may not know this. the type of diving should determine what he wants and not just because PB/WING divers think it's better. I know people that won't touch a PB/Wing set up no matter what you tell them.
The more info you have the better decision you can make.
Wasted enough time on this.
