The other day me and a friend did a really shallow dive 11-20ft. He ran his tank empty. When he tried to remove the yoke off the 1st stage it was impossible to unscrew. All the air was purged from the 2nd stages and the tank was empty. How did it get so tight and how does he get it off now?
Thanks

Gas can get trapped in or behind the o-ring making the yoke screw difficult to turn. The gas should dissipate in time but if you cant wait, you will just have to put more effort into turning the yoke screw. It usually helps to just turn the reg a bit if you can - pretty easy with a balance piston. Other may not be sop easy.

Sometimes the yoke screw needs lubrication. Spray on a compatible silicon and wait 10 minutes. It often helps. Lubricating the screw is good to add to your post dive cleaning and maintenance procedure.

If the other suggestions didn't work, or if others encounter this problem in the future, a really big set of channel lock pliers, or a big pipe wrench, can be an asset in this situation.

Hummmm WWAS (What would Al say? )....sorry for whatever reason that was the first thing that poped to mind. :)

A strap wrench migh work and is less likely to do damage.
