Forgot that I was diving dry and not wet. Well, in the end the dry suit was also a wet suit.

Let's see.. so many to choose from. Not as embarrasing as some that have read.. jumping into water without drysuit zipped down all way.. Too a sec to realize not supposed to cold and wet down there. Never got out of water so fast.

When in transit, I always make a practice to not tighten dive light until before dive. Jumped in and saw bubbles coming out of light after diving in. Made that mistake (and forgetting to fully zip dry suit) only once.

Jumping in without weights. Everyone has at least done that before.

Backward roll into water not holding mask strap. Mask goes down to bottom. I guess in relation to others, i haven't been that bad.

Wreckmania a few years ago... Walter had gone through a rather long diatribe about how complacency kills during his pre-dive briefing. As we worked this class, he always splashed first and I was the last in. Needless to say, he had a rather sheepish grin when he realised he only had his glasses on. "See what I'm saying??? Complacency kills!"

Of course there is that whole sordid "buddy line" incident. :eyebrow:

It happened, and I remember it, but my log describes it a little differently. The day before we started class, you, June & I were diving for fun. I wasn't wearing glasses. I had my mask on ready to enter the water when the dive was delayed by several minutes. I pulled my mask down around my neck. When we finally did get in, I merely put my reg in my mouth and stepped in backwards. Normally, after an entry it takes several seconds for the bubbles to go away and vision to clear. My vision didn't clear after the bubbles left. At first, I was puzzled as to why, but then I realized I wasn't wearing my mask properly, so I put it on while continuing my descent. If I hadn't confessed, no one would have even known.

You need to take better notes my friend. :D Your glasses were on your face as clear as day and I am certain it was during the class. At least I remember the DM handing your mask to you.

You're old and senile, my friend. Check your log. Besides, I've done things lots stupider than that.

The first night dive I ever did was in Roatan. I bought a cheesy disposable camera that turned out to be very positively buoyant. I put it on a retractor and stuffed it in the pocket of my BC. When we dropped down to the reef I pulled it out and snapped a couple of pictures then let go knowing it was on the retractor. Next time I reached for it, it was gone. I searched all over but could not find it. The rest of the dive I couldn’t stop thinking about how stupid I was for not clipping the retractor to my BC. After the dive I found the camera clipped to the retractor, still clipped to the BC. The camera was so buoyant it pulled the retractor out and straight up--the camera was above my head the whole time.

I did the EXACT same thing! Except that when we got descended I never even found the camera b/c it was over my head. I was so mad at my self for "leaving it on the boat." There was a moray eel posing for pictures and I didn't snap one.

We got back on the boat and my dive buddy asked why I didn't take any pictures. He saw it floating above my head the whole dive. :shakehead

That was a few weeks ago. We went down with a guide, my buddy and a friend. Another group was diving close to us. Our friend was slow to descend so we waited her in front of a gorgonian and tried our luck in finding pygmee sea horses. Then someone from the other group joined us. Weird...
And when I looked up and checked after a little while, our friend was nowhere to be seen. :11:
After looking for her for a minute, I was ready to call the dive and reascend.
Then, looking at the group and ready to make my signs, I realised that the "someone from the other group" was actually our friend, busy to look through the gorgonian. Daahhh!:shakehead
That was not narcosis, that was pure dumbness. And it would have been twice dumb to reascend because there were 3 pygmee sea horses in the gorgonian.;)
PS: I have not told anyone, of course. And as they are not on this forum, my secret is well kept.:eyebrow:

I got a classic, didn't turn my air on and wondered why my reg wasn't working! Then there's the always hilarious situation for your buddy when you descend with your snorkel in.
