Your equipment should be safe from x-rays, but the baggage handlers are another story.

Keep everything that's expensive or delicate or hard to replace in your carry-on luggage (regs, computers, glasses, medication, passport, jewlrey, etc.).

Anything that's big, wet, smelly or hard to sell should be OK in your luggage. also, I'd suggest not using a SCUBA bag. Try something ratty and old, like some hard-sided luggage from the 80's.

As webMonkey pointed out, the baggage handlers are your biggest concern.

This is assuming you are not using film in your digital camera! :D

There's no reason to be any more of a pack-mule than necessary. They'll happily deliver your bags, and as long as it's just clothes and normal stuff, you shouldn't have any problem.

Also, you'll be boarding with a couple of thousand other people, so dragging a luggage-train through the ship is going to be a problem.

I just carry my briefcase (laptop) and a small rolling bag (the kind that fits over your seat on the plane) and haven't had any problems.

we got on our ship right when the first people are allowed on......we carried (rolled) all our own luggage and it was fine....It was very busy near the end of boarding.....so go early and carry your own.

Xrays won't hurt any of your gear. When I travel I take my Regulator, Mask and Camera on board with me. Just make sure you don't have any knives or scuba tools in with your carry on. Sounds stupid but I have forgotten in the past.

i have a dive knife attached to my bc, will it not be possible for me to bring the knife?

keep anything that can be stolen away from the bagage monkeys.

X-ray won't hurt any of it. however, keep that "hand scanner" metal detector away from anything electronic. I've seen it fry something before.

Any that could be stolen such as highly resellable used SCUBA gear? An urban myth. SCUBA gear has no real value as fenced resale, slow to sell under the best of conditions even in a shop, maybe for 30% of what you bought it for the day before it depreciated as you walked out of the dive shop. A real red herring.

SCUBA Gear has the additional factor of "unconcealibility". No "baggage monkey" can "palm" your precuious jumble of hoses and metal and stuff it into his pants pocket.

Look at reality before jumping to any conclusion. Gear is simply not stolen. Caneras? Another issue entirely. But still unlikely. Everybody is on surveillance video, everybody is being watched.

Like what and how? It's a passive magnetometer. Not possible.

Go, have fun, dive. Take no tools (knives or...), take no tanks.
