..that sucks. Check the medical section, too. They had this very discussion not too long ago and several ideas were kicked around. Denton's idea sounds like a really good one, though. Gore-tex is good stuff. It wicks moisture away and is used in waterproof clothing.

Hi Denton! Any friend of Natasha's is a friend of mine. :)
She's a great gal. Welcome to the board!

Thanks to you all for you well wishes. And, Denton, that is a great tip. I am checking into it. I have an appointment with the ortho DR. on Tuesday.

Jep, you're a trip. SJ was so glad that we was not directly involved so it wasn't his fault. Damn him for paying my way into something I wanted to do, right? :D

I am gonna search the med threads for info too.

I will keep you posted. R

Denton once bubbled...
. This is based on some studies going on in Canada using sheep.

They let sheep with broken bones go scuba diving in Canada?

Raven,
I registered just to post this, as I know nothing about diving. At this point it is just a great sport that I admire, but have yet to jump into. I live in Phoenix...

The scaphoid! Oh that pesky little scaphoid... On 05 MAR 03 I got ejected off a golf cart. Boys will be boys I guess. My wrist swelled up, wouldn't move then started turning colors. I went to the urgent care facility close by to get my head stitched up and checked out for any brain damage (got knocked out for ~3 minutes). Seven stitches, a lot of tests, even more x-rays and I was out of there. No clue what was wrong with my wrist. After a bonescan and MRI it was finally decided that I too, broke my left scaphoid. I had two choices given to me by the hand specialist -- six months in a cast, or surgery and up to six months in a removable brace. Both solutions carried a very good chance of the bone not healing properly, and dying. That was due to the direction the blood flows through the scaphoid.

I chose surgery. Got it screwed back together on 30 APR. I sit here today still with daily constant pain, some days too harsh to go to work. Take a couple percacets and go back to sleep. I still have no movement in my wrist, and can't get my thumb to reach the base of my pinky finger. I don't know what the hell the Dr did (or did not do), but I am still not healed. Once the CT scan's say healed I'll have to have physical therapy for 1.5 months, THEN I'll finally be released as being back to normal.

I didn't type this out to get you down, piss you off or burst your bubble. I typed this just to let you know 'the other' direction this situation can take, as it was explained to me.

I wish you the best of luck in your recovery, Raven. There is nobody I would wish this inconvience on. If you have any questions that I can answer, just ask.

Colin

Colin, I am so sorry to hear that. Thanks for your post. I am going to the Dr. this afternoon. I don't want to opt for surgery because I think that it may be worse off than it already is. We'll see. I'll keep everyone posted. Gotta run. R

Boo-Boo update.

Good news: Bad news: Repeatative news

RN 1st: New x-rays show that there are two fractures.

GN next: The broken bone is not the scaphoid but the bone above it so the healing process should be more successful and surgery not a consideration.

BN last: It will take several weeks maybe even a few months to heal. :(

But - I can remain in a brace for now and in three weeks if the bone heals well I can remain in a brace. If not, I will have to get a cast.

Let's hope for the best. R
