Why volunteer? There are already people that can and will do that job.
I spent a couple years on a minesweeper (navy) 11 years ago....

This would be like asking volunteers to fly commercial aircraft, it requires a certain degree of skill to identify or clear an area of mines...

I think that the skill level is directly proportional to life expectancy when it comes to clearing mines. Even then, you have the "Oh crap I shouldn't have done that!" factor to worry about.
