This is the one in question:
Oceanic Scuba Diving Regulator and Gauge

Looking for a somewhat inexpensive setup for the girlfriend and this just seemed like a good deal since she needs a computer as well. Just have the inherent doubts about buying something as important as a regulator from a pawn shop. Looks good though.

Is that an air computer or nitrox computer? I also don't see a low pressure inflator hose. It's used so you'll probably want to get it servicec ($75-$100) that makes it around $350 + the inflator hose.

Scubatoys (.com) has an Aeries package with air computer for $410. +$20 for the inflator hose. So would I buy the used one from the pawn shop? Um, probably not.

A new edge epic set up (no computer) would cost between 300-400$ and would be both new and a reliable first reg.

Like chrpai said, when you factor in a necessary service, you're better off shopping around for a new package deal on sale somewhere.

Pawn shops are often invisible in the online sales market. I know a pawn shop that has a couple of full time employees who do nothing but take care of sales on eBay, Amazon, etc. You may be surprised how often people buy items from pawn shops without knowing it.

There is no reason an item purchased from a pawn shop would be any different from buying from an individual. What normally happens is an individual who does not want to go through the perceived hassle of Internet sales will sell an item to a pawn shop instead. The pawn shop will then resell it, and many are frequently going directly to the Internet with such items. It's the same item--just one more step in the process.

Actually, that looks like a pretty good deal. There is a LP hose laying right on top. It's going to be hard to beat a first, second, octo, LP hose, guages and a couputer for less than $350 (price plus a service). Odds are you may can flash cash and get the price down $25-50 to boot. A quick check of LP - First/second -$300, Octo-$90, guages/computer $250-300 easy for a total of $640- 690 for pretty much the same gear.

It's like anything else used, you're taking a chance, but most good pawn shops won't take something in if it doesn't work, rent a tank and take it in an test as much as you can.

Are you looking specifically for Oceanic or just on price? If you are looking for Oceanic then a comparison with LP is correct. If you are looking at price then you would need to compare all options. I am not sure what you can get for $350.00 new including a computer. Probably not much.
