I'm involved with something called ‘Time to Surface’ (TTS).
One part of TTS is going to run a series of workshops, to enable divers around the world to enjoy safer, informed diving. At present (and for the foreseeable future) there is no money involved. TTS works with a “pay it forward” philosophy - if you can, you make a small voluntary contribution to a charity.
The first workshop is about boat diving. Diving off a boat should be fun, however it is a dynamic environment in which we operate. Being afloat often challenges our ability to recognise hazards, and act appropriately. This workshop explores a common misconception that dive boat safety is just the captain’s concern. In reality, the captain is responsible, we are responsible, and the community is responsible.
This 90-minute workshop will empower us all to be better (stakeholders / divers) so that we can start to see things differently. It will provide us with the tools to help protect ourselves and others by recognising risks earlier.
The session will focus on
- What are the top three hazards of diving?
- What are the top three hazards of boat diving?
- Identify 10 risks with getting to the dive site
You will walk away from this on-line practical session better informed and armed with useful knowledge. It should also mean you find boat diving less stressful, allowing you to enjoy your underwater adventures more.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
Everyone! Doesn't matter whether you have just taken your first fin steps, or you are a very seasoned professional. I know that there are some highly experienced personnel who are involved with boats and safety who post on here. We are looking to encourage useful and productive dialogue for divers.

The first on-line workshop – entitled ‘**** Happens’ - will be held on Wednesday 6 April 2022 at 19.00 GMT. This time has been chosen so that it will hopefully work for many divers around the world. ScubaBoard is an international community, and divers from around the globe all post here.
