Well, I finally dove in and bought my first major piece of equipment -- beyond the personal stuff, watch and light.

My LDS had a sale on rental gear and I bought a used BCD. It actually was not a rental piece. It was used by the co-owner of the shop for many years on his warm water trips.

It is a Sherwood Scuba Accord HP with an inflator hose and a quick dump valve. It is not a weight integrated system. It has two pockets, two small and two larger metal d-rings and two female plastic clips. It set me back CDN $175 plus taxes.

I will still need to rent the rest of the gear -- wetsuit, regs, weights, tanks -- but I am really pleased to get this piece of equipment. It will be so nice not to have something completely different on my back each time I rent.

Word to the wise: Submerge in water often. Rinse thoroughly afterwards. Repeat regularly.

You should test the BC for air leakage by inflating it and leaving it for a couple of hours to see if it is losing air. Also test the inflator function by connecting to a full tank and observe to see is is not leaking air into the Bc which can cause auto -inflation during a dive. Hope that the BC paases these tests and enjoy your dives.

You sound stoked about your purchase...Congrats! It's good to hear your enthusiasm. I just sold my Pro QD and purchased a Seaquest Latitude for my DM classes...Lighter weight. Use an OMS bp/w for fun dives. One poster stated to take care of it...Very true. I have had my Pro QD for 7 years and have always took very good care of it. Sold it for $300.00. My LDS instructor gives me a 20% discount, so I basically got a brand new BC for $60. If you take care of your gear it will last a long time and get you good money on trade. I sold the QD the day I told people at the dive shop I wanted to sell it....Congrats on your first buy...I promise you it won't be the last:)
