The BP/W is a comfy BC. The nice thing is that's it's completely adjustable so it should fit you regardless of your size. But I think you need to try it before buying it. They are expensive and if you don't like it you will have spent a lot of money. THe one I wore was the one with 24lbs of lift, the smallest one.

27 lb Halcyon Pioneer BP/Wings setup $485 from fifthd.com

Zeagle Zena from Scubatoys.com $448. So yes,the backplate is $27 more !

I know which one I would choose (but then I might look funny in a Zena :D )

I'm in NJ on business and stopped in at a LDS to try the Oceanic Isla and Islander. I really liked the Isla. The jacket inflates away from the body so there is no sqeeze on the diaphram. The back is padded and is incredibaly comfortable. The power inflator has the buttons set up so that I don't have to change hand positions and it fits perfectly in my hand. The inflator is powerful and the dumps are fast and easy to pull. The weights were really easy to release. The front part of the jacket comes up and sits just under the breasts (mine anyway I'm a 36B). It doesn't squeeze but I wish the contour was a little lower. I would prefer a more open design. But I really liked it.

I found the Islander comfortable but the weights were harder to release due to the angle. Probably alright with practice, but I think I decided not to go with a back inflate. I don't want to have to lean back at the surface.

This weekend I will go to a different LDS here in NJ and try on the Sherwood BCs.

I'll post my results afterwards.

After trying on the Scubapro Ladyhawk I was sold. It is so comfy and has the features that I really wanted: 3 air dumps, hard carry handle, solid tank strap. The trim weights are located right next to the tank and are easy to get to. I also like the weight release which for me is even easier than the Isla. I have n o idea why it got a low score from Rodales (the weight release not the BC).

I also walked away with the Scubapro Mk25SA/600. Very light weight and can be used in cold water.

Also decided on the Suunto Cobra air integrated console. Very nice set up.

The Rodale review certainly helped me decide, but in the end I got what fit me the best even though their reviews didn't rank it as #1.

I love my Ladyhawk. I personally think the weight release system on the Ladyhawk is much more secure than the velcro I had on my previous BC. Enjoy your new gear!

Congratulations on your new gear!! Isn't it great when you find just the right thing?? I think it's fabulous when you try on a BC and just know it's the right one.

I always tell people to try on as many as they can find until they find the perfect one for them. That's why I don't like "reviews" that try to compare something like a BC or a wetsuit across the board. If you and I have different body types, we're going to rank BCs and wetsuits in a totally different way from eachother.
