A 49-year-old woman is in serious condition after suffering a heart attack while scuba diving off the coast of Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote this morning (Thursday).

The incident occurred at around 9:30 am near the Muelle de La Tiñosa in the municipality of Tías, and according to the emergency services, she went into cardiac arrest during the dive, prompting an immediate rescue operation.

A caller informed them that the woman had lost consciousness and was receiving CPR at the scene. A nurse, who was in the control room at the time, provided tele-assistance, guiding the caller through life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

Upon arrival, medical personnel confirmed that the woman had regained a pulse. After stabilising her at the scene, she was transferred in a critical condition by an advanced life support ambulance to the José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.

It's still not clear whether the incident was caused by stress while diving, a pre-existing health issue, or something else.
