Tragedy struck in Cartagena as a 37-year-old woman lost her life during a diving expedition in the renowned Cueva del Agua, located in Isla Plana, Murcia. The exact cause of the incident remains unclear, but reports suggest she encountered a problem while diving with a companion, according to Europa Press.

The Emergency Coordination Centre ‘1-1-2’ received a distress call at 11:04 p.m. on Saturday. The caller, who was at the cave’s entrance, reported losing sight of his diving partner, raising concerns that she might be in serious difficulty.

In response, the Special Group for Underwater Activities of the Civil Guard (GEAS) was dispatched to the scene, accompanied by firefighters from Cartagena’s Firefighting and Rescue Service (SEIS), equipped with external lighting systems. Local police officers and an ambulance from the 061 Emergency and Urgent Care Department also attended as a precaution in case medical intervention was required after the rescue.

Tragically, at approximately 1:45 a.m., the GEAS team located the woman’s lifeless body. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
