We are releasing the map of the complete Wakulla-Chip’s Hole system.
The connection point was verified using a Cave Radio-Locator (CRL) and a surface-based receiver to accurately pinpoint the GPS location to ensure a more precise map. The larger map shows the entire Wakulla-Chip’s Hole system with 45 miles of explored underwater passage and the connection point near the Turner Sink entrance. The expanded view at the top of the map shows the area of the connection in greater detail. The connection point is nearly 17,000ft from the Chip’s entrance or more than 2,700ft from the Turner Sink entrance.
The WKPP is committed to sharing information gathered in the underwater environment, and the new map has been shared with the interested government and local resource managers.
More details to follow!
Edit: less grainy version of the map
