So I am starting to get itchy to dive again, problem is I don't have a drysuit, don't know how to use one, and live in Ontario :(

How far south does one need to drive/fly to get back to 50F plus waters? (the fact that I am currently looking for another tank isn't helping)

who else shares my withdrawal?

Well, why don't you see about getting drysuit trained?

I'm going through withdrawal, but I've gotten a lot of pool time this winter (both scuba and with just doing laps). I'm going to a southern IL quarry (Mermet Springs) next weekend to dive. That is, as long as I can get over the cold that started yesterday. :( Water temp will be about 45F (I have a DS).

I can tell you that the waters here in south carolina are currently sub 50 in the fresh water portions. Our oceans are in the high 50's right now, but no boats are really going out.

Your best bet in the winter is to go down to Florida and snorkel in the springs with the manatees if you don't want to go all the way down to the Keys

Get a drysuit, go dive locally. I know a bunch of the guys at Dan's Dive Shop and they've been diving throughout the winter

I guess you're probably talking about the Carolinas for 50F in winter. On the N. Gulf of Mex. it's about 60 now (usually bottoms out in the mid 50s here). If you don't want to get a drysuit maybe you could figure how to do one dive up there monthly--figuring out to be warm before & after the dive. I use my house in NS, as we are on the ocean. I have on occasion used the car heater and put plastic on the seat if wet.

Here off the coast in NE Florida water temps are in the mid to upper 50s at the surface. Unfortunately for this full blooded Floridian that too frigid for me. I've only got a 3mm suit and undergarments so with my thin blood I'd freeze. I can't wait for April to arrive and the waters to warm, so I'm feeling your pain.

I am thinking of doing the drysuit specialty with my advanced shop offers it as a discount if you pair them. After I think I can rent one, certainly can't buy one right now.

Have you considered buying a used thicker suit, or is the time off from diving just not that long? That's what I find with the locals in winter here on the panhandle as well. Tough to find a buddy. I prefer not going solo on deeper dives, which tends to limit me mostly to the bays here in Jan./Feb.

Come down to VA and pick up my two tanks and then you can freeze in the Atlantic!!!!
