Reef Monitoring and Winter the Dolphin invite everyone to participate in Winter's Reef Clean-Up on Saturday, June 23rd at the Clearwater Harbor Marina in Clearwater, Florida!
Reef Monitoring in conjunction with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium been holding reef clean-up events for the past several years and this year is shaping up to be bigger and better! Last year, about 200 registered divers went out and removed over 1,500 lbs of crab trap rope, monofilament fishing line, plastic bags and other garbage from the Clearwater Artificial Reef that sits about 5 miles off of beautiful Clearwater Beach. As many of you know, it was crab trap rope that cost Winter the Dolphin her tail.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), it was the single largest gathering for a reef clean-up in the history of Florida!!
This year, we are back at it and heading to the reefs off of Dunedin, Florida home of the famous Honeymoon Island.
Participants must be registered divers. Boat space is incredibly limited and spots are going fast. Reef Monitoring is ALWAYS looking for more boats to participate. As you can imagine, we always have more willing participants than we have boat space for them! If you have a boat and can take divers with you, please contact us immediately. Compensation for fuel is available, contact us for futher details.
There will be raffle prizes for all participants, lunch and beverages are provided. There is a registration fee of $10 which covers the lunch, t-shirt and one raffle ticket. Further raffle tickets are available for purchase.
Please visit Reef Monitoring for more details and to register or e-mail cleanup@reefmonitoring.org!
Winter and all of us at Reef Monitoring thank you for your participation!
