Hey all--my girlfriend is diving my old BC (a jacket style BC that's too large for her and kinda clumsy)... Obviously she needs to get something that fits her. She really likes the clean setup of a BP/Wings and we're looking at the Hammerhead SS plate with the one-piece STA that other posts have praised. Does anyone have suggestions for a particular Wing we should mate it with?

We're cold water drysuit divers, recreational limits only, single tanks... I'm not familiar with the whole universe of wings out there, and I don't know if there are any special considerations in terms of how different brands all fit together... So any advice would be appreciated--thanks!

Hammerhead plates have standard spaced mounting holes, and as the result will fit any wing that's designed for a backplate.

For single tanks, though I currently dive the Trek Wing, I prefer the donut style wings. For example:

DiveRite's Travel (supposedly new ones fit BPs) and Venture.
Halcyon's Pioneer and Eclipse.
OxyCheq's Standard Single and Signature Series.

Donut wings are nice since it's easier to get air to the dumps, as opposed to horseshoe shaped wings. The contiguous design of the donut wing allows air to move to the highest points more efficiently.

As for appropriate size, you might want to read this recent post, if you haven't already: Nice and simple question about wings

Okay, so I didn't give you a direct answer since I don't dive in the same conditions you do, but hopefully it helped reduce the universe to a solar system.

Following in the footsteps of 3 other dive buddies, I went with a wing from Oxycheq. Performs very well & I'm using it with the Hammerhead plate & STA.

Oxycheq 45 is the way to go. Awesome single tank wing. Please keep in mind, a wing cannot be used for both doubles and singles. A double tank wing will wrap around (taco) a single tank.

Thanks for the advice... We'll definately do a little research and get kitted out... In hindsight, the "nice & simple" thread seems a little misnamed, but had a lot of good things to think about...

Btw, I'm using the Oxycheq 30# wing. 245lbs, floats me with my 7mm no problem. If you dive drysuit the 45# may be what your looking for. Don't hesitate to call Ed Graefe at Hammerhead, he is really nice an helpful.

I'm diving the oxycheq 45#, but would recommend the Halcyon Pioneer as well. Both are great wings. I bought the oxycheq cause it came up at a good price first.

With a Pioneer you can probably get away with a 36# lift. The oxycheq 30# seems just a bit on the light side. I almost went this route. Oh, and on a quick note, the only difference in the oxycheq 30-45# wing is internal gussets (it gets bigger beside the tank), so the outer profile stays exactly the same. Pioneer has external gussets so it's a bit bigger profile.

I have an Oxycheq Signature Series #44 (#45? I can never remember :p ). It mates perfectly with the bolt holes on the plate.

Really, what about the Rec Wing, with the built-in gusset control cord for singles????

I have the Oxycheq 30 with the Hammerhead. I think this works best is because: I thread the tank band thru the STA to the Backplate and back so that the weight of the tank is supported by the backplate instead of the 2 wing nuts and I do not have to worry that the nuts came loose. I only dives single and don;t plan to change for a while.
