I have a Scubapro x tek BP & wing (30lb singles wing).Im having some issues with my setup, its scratching the crap out of my steel(faber 100cu/ft tank).

I initially had it setup with an STA, which was alsoscratching the tank (but i stopped that with some rubber tubing), but havingthe STA attached forced me to have the tank a bit too high and made me to'floaty' in the legs.

So I ditched the STA (which helped me lower the tank andavoid my floaty legs, and just feels better all round), but now the metalgrommet holes (the metal bits where the screws would go through) are scratchingthe crap out of my tank, not just little scratches either, they are gouginginto the tank all the way to the steel. I don’t have any metal 'book' screwsinserted, so its not them that are doing the damage. has anyone else had thisproblem? is this common with wings and steel tanks? how do i fix this?

Im thinking a few things may work, I could add plastic bookscrews and maybe a large plastic washer to cover the metal?

or a neoprene tank cover or tank mesh?

or maybe try something where I could Velcro some webbingonto the wing (using some stick on Velcro) to cover the holes?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A pair of PAD($1.75 each) for cam strap from DGX.
It will stop the tank from shifting and also keep the grommet from scratching the tank. I used them.
However, I am not sure if this will fit the cam strap of your SP.
I am pretty sure Zeagle also has something similar if getting from DGX is too troublesome from OZ.

Thanks. Thats a great idea i would never have thought of. My wife has some of those on her zeagle Zena, I think they'll fit, ill check when I get home tomorrow.

Steel cylinders are supposed to get "love" scratches on them! My side mount cave tanks look like they have been dragged behind my truck for miles. You can barely read the stamped markings on them. [emoji41]

1) You may find that a rubber grommet placed inside the metal ones will help. They are used for passing cables and hoses through sheet metal. You can get them in the miscellaneous hardware section of a home center, or sometimes with electrical supplies in a home center, or at an auto parts place, or from an electronics parts supplier. They are cheap, the problem is finding the right size. Electronics parts places will have all sizes and shapes, others might have something that will work.

2) The grommet isn't strictly necessary. You can remove it, and melt the frayed parts of the hole with a lighter just as you would the ends of the webbing or the end of polymer line.

Newer steel tanks have a sprayed-on coating that doesn't provide as much cathodic protection from corrosion. I would think that the integrity of the coating on these tanks would be more important than on the older ones.

I fail to see how it could happen in the first place. I also don't see how the STA prevents you from raising up or lowering your tank. Please send us a picture of how your kit is put together. Something is just not right.

Try painting a tool handle coating over the piece causing the scratches. Plasti Dip 14.5 oz. Black Rubber Coating-11603-6 - The Home Depot This can also be painted onto your suit in high abrasion areas. It needs a few coats depending on how thick you want it.

Will this work with neoprene? The knee pads on my DUI 50/50 (they are not the kevlar covered ones but the crushed neo pads) are starting to show wear. OBTW, I got it that way from former owner.
