I have a Dive Rite Classic 360 wing that has a bunji, are there reasons the bungis are bad? should they be tight enough to significantly shrink the size of the wing? or is loose a better plan? I think even if it was really tight I would still be able to orally inflate the wing enough to float any doubles I plan to be carrying.

I've never tried a BWD, but the arguments against them are strong enough that I don't feel compelled to test them out. You may be able to inflate the wing orally, but what if there's a leak?

The 360 is a pretty big wing at 60lbs, do you really need that much lift? A smaller wing would be more streamlined without need of bungees and should provide adequate lift.

A big disadvantage of the bungee is that of you get a hole in your wing there is no way for you to keep the air inside by repositioning yourself. The bungee will push the air out of the wing. I also found they will keep the amount of air on both sides of the wing more or less even so if when I put something on one side I could not counter balance it by moving air on that side, it could be the problem of that particular model

Are you talking about bungees like this?

They call those gusset control. They don't necessarily squeeze out all the air like the bungees that you see on OMS, the BWD.

My Rec wing has the bungee. I can complete retract the bungee and I can still orally inflate it. It takes it from a 50# wing to a 40# wing.

Why not just get the right wing and skip the BS?

Yup that is my exact wing. it seems it will hold some air even fully bungied, not really an issue on the hole though since I need a redundant system anyway so unless i put a hole in both wings and neither one will hold any air I should be good.

Ditch the redundant wing and ditch the bungies. The bungies will snag on/in wrecks and in caves. The redundant wing is unnecessary for the correct tank/suit combinations. One of the inflators is bound to leak and/or one of the wings will trap gas as you attempt to vent from the other.

You've heard all that before in your other thread so I'll stop beating that dead horse.

rjack, there are situations that warrant redundant bladders.

The first one that comes to mind is diving doubles wet, a pretty common scenario on sites like the Vandenberg (deep but warm).

or you could use doubles that aren't boat anchors. aluminum 80s work fine
