you'll hear some brand bashing here, but thats about it. Either you like a bp/wings or you haven't tried one out yet basically. People that don't like it either haven't tried it or can't grasp the advantages

...or have tried them and dont like them.

(I know I'm treding dangures grounds here)

I'm considering a switch over from a seaQest\ballance back-inflated to a halcyon 36# paioneer with an allominum backplate. I dive recreational, singule tank only, warm water, no caves or the such.

I've been asking around, but it seems that only a handfull of people back home (Israel) have ever tried this system, and except for one that did not like getting into the fixed harness, not one could say a good or bad work about the system.

so far, I've dived once with such a setup, and it was very comfertable, and I will have a weekend or so to try this out befour I have to deside (and pay). But I want to be sure I know what to look for when I test-run this.

I'm looking for posible problems with this system, thing I should watch out for, reasons not to go forward and switch. I want to know all the dirty secrets that the bp/w missionarys don't want to you to tell me.

(this way, when I get my wings and start preaching, I'd know what not to say ;) )

I can tell you, I LOVED my SQ Balance. Its the only other BC I'd consider going back to if for some reason I started hating on my BP/W.

I'm a single tank recreational weenie diver. No tech, no deco, no doubles, no other stuff. I flop in, about an hour later, I climb out. I wait awhile, and do it all again.

There is nothing I don't like about my BP/W (Halcyon 36#, Steel plate) except for the fact that out of the water (when packing and transporting) the rig is heavy - and with the ACB and Can light on it, its bulky.

Getting in and out of it isn't as easy as the SQ Balance, with its sliding shoulder straps, etc. But like all BP/W users, you work around that and it becomes easy enough to get in and out of. The trade off is the tight (read: proper) fit.

But overall, I'm pleased with the switch I've made. I've lost weight, so I needed to adjust it recently, but that's it. The best thing I can say is this: It just works. Its rugged, simple, low tech and is really one less thing I need to think about during the dive. I like that a lot.

Mucho good info here already, little I'd disagree with. Stab Jackets do have their place, for example some photogs prefer them, as they prefer to be more vertical.

Having said that, BP/W' s are a very adaptable basic rig. We offer a choice of harnesses, including one that has release buckles.

Good luck,

I've actually made the switch some months ago, and I love it. Balance and trim are excelent, everything seems in place. I even tried out a oduble setip once, and it was even better (felt like the tanks where bolted to my spine - zero movment, and they when where I wanted them to go. just really great).

Now I'm working on moving my wife from Zeagle Zena to BP :]
thanks again for all the input.

BILLB:
difference are more a matter of perception (not that much difference).

Are you saying that having 5-6 lbs. of weight spread evenly across your back is only a "perceived" difference?
