SPG for all the reasons already mentioned.

For me I like the hose and gauge. I like it because it is easier to position the gauge so I can see it with out moving the tank while diving.

It does not matter if pony is on right or left I can have gauge facing me.

I learned this lesson during my cave class, and it was evident, not something my instructor needed to point out. If you're using a stage, you need to be able to read the pressure gauge. Buttons are not good for that. If you're doing deco, it doesn't matter that much because you can't put more gas in there so buttons are OK for deco regs, but not for stages. Yes, I can still read my button gauge if I use it as a stage, but I don't have the fidelity to discern between a hundred or two hundred pounds with a button gauge.

I'm on button gauges as I am never intending to do a dive where I'm carrying so little gas +- 500psi would hurt me. I don't like extra hoses to fiddle with or restow when I just want to glance at my pressures to confirm what I already should know it reads.

I myself have always used PVC pipe extensions which go a little past the guage face to protect from scratches and also to absorb shock
Neat idea. So you find a pvc pipe with same diameter as gauge, cut & wedge around it?
