Why isn't the OM-D E-M10 used underwater often?

With the Meikon and the zoom.. I found the work-around by using the EZ lens (12-50 EZ), unfortunately nowhere near the 2.8 PRO but it increases the usability a lot as you can finally use (electronically) the zoom under water.

Hello,
I think about starting UW photography and would Like to buy a used System. we want to use the Camera on Land as well (Holidays - sea, Bali etc).
I currently think about the Olympus System and would Like to have the 12-40 2.8lens. I am not sure if I should go for the EM5 or the EM10.
I would Like to shot some Videos as well but the System shouldnt be to expensive for the start. Dose one of the System have big advantages compared to the Other (EM5 better Housing ?) Which System has the better housing for the 12-40 pro lens?

I am also not sure about the Mark2 or Mark3 OMD5 - I would Like to Transfer raw format pictures via wifi to the iPad - not sure if this Runs with the Mark2?
Do you Know someone who wants to Sell this System?
Best regards
Daniel

Things to remember about UW photography, the biggest expense is the housing and it’s not a huge amount more to get the housing for a top line camera.

If you are buying second hand you can get a good price on a top line camera.

If I were you I would look for an EM-1 mkIi system, the AF is much snappier and the battery life is a lot better. The AF is important macro as you approach life size and the EM-1 mkIi is less likely to lock onto Backscatter. Better battery life is great for any UW camera. The EM 5 and my 1&2 are a bit slow on AF and battery doesn’t last long, The Mk3 is better in this regard but still has a small battery. The EM -1 mkIi allows you to save 3 sets of UW settings to a custome mode on the mode dial, the EM10 doesn’t have this.
The 12-45 lens is very good UW and is smaller and fits more housings.
I don’t think any of the EM cameras download RAW over wifi, think the OM1 was first to allow this with the capture app not the iPhone app. BTW wifi won’t work so well in an aluminium housing.

You should be able to pick up a second hand EM-1 MkIi system for a very good price now. The housing should be 30-40% of original new price. The camera similar . The Nauticam and Isotta housings are both very good.

Thanks for your comments - i currently prefer the OMD EM1 Mark 3 with the 12-40 pro Lens (got. an Option to buy it around 900Euros).
What would be your recommodation for a good housing for that combination? Do you know anyone who wants to Sell a housing working for that ?
Would the isotta housing for the mark2 also work for the mark 3 with the 12-40 pro Lens ?

With the mark 3 omd em1 and an sd card Adapter to the new iPad it should work to directly transfer raw Files correct ?

Best regards
Daniel

You can watch the Photography Classifieds - sometimes you will find someone selling their entire system. It's also a great place to pick-up additional ports and lens.

I have two EM-1 mk ii and an EM10 iv. I've found battery life on the latter to be at least as long as the former and quite good for UW photography.
