I wanted to go to Fiji to go diving. I did a bunch of research, I kept running into problems of the price being too high for me. I want nice surroundings, lovely lodging, good food, good diving, etc - no backpacking/hard-core dive ops/hotels. For me it was not ALL about the diving, even though that is why I am heading to that part of the world. Beqa just had amazing prices and met all the requirements. They also do a lot of advertising to divers, which is who is on this forum. If you go to the Tripadvisor Fiji forum, Beqa is rarely mentioned.

We are doing one week at Beqa and one week near Tavenui - best of both worlds IMO!

What do you think is the very best diving spot in the South Pacific? I'll add it to my travel list!

I haven't dived everywhere here, but in my opinion, live aboards are the way to go if you are after pure diving, Vanuatu for value for money with lovely people, nice resorts and REALLY good diving, French Polynesia for sharks, sharks and more sharks, mantas, sea life and ultimate luxury resorts (but you pay for it), Niue for something different, outer Yasawa islands Fiji for diving and luxury resorts at a lesser cost than FP, or ask the locals anywhere in Australia for great diving, value for money hotels/resorts. I'm sure others will reply with their experiences of other South Pacific destinations.

I agree live aboards are the best! However I get easily seasick (need highly sheltered live aboards - really worried about my future Cocos & Galapagos trips one day!) and for the price of the Fiji Aggressor/Dancer I got two weeks in Fiji instead of one!!

Thanks for the tips!

That's exactly what we found when we looked at a trip to Fiji. We love liveaboards and looked at them first, but when our LDS advertised a trip to Beqa, we found we could do 2 weeks there for the price of one week on a liveaboard. Considering the distance and time to get to Fiji, I'd much rather have a two week vacation than one.

We did a week at Beqa, then a week on a liveaboard. We thought Beqa had good diving until we did the liveaboard and dove the Bligh Waters. No comparison! The Bligh Waters had so much more color and so much more life. Our next trip is to Wananavu because it is even cheaper than Beqa given the Fijian dollar and you can dive the Bligh Waters if the weather holds.
