This is the only place where you can ask a question about a very obscure location and be almost certain to get an answer from SOMEBODY.

Reminds me of a question I posted a while ago - did anyone know what the record was for the highest ever altitude dive?

Thal replies, yes - it was Dr Charles Brush in Lago Licancabur in about 1996.

I ask back - how do you know that?

Thal replies, because I trained him for it.

'Nuff said.

Rhone Man:
I originally had a 10th option - "Walter's charm" but I removed it because I figured I would get in trouble.

Some appreciate it, but it is an extremely small group.

I don't love ScubaBoard ... but I have strong affection for a great many of the people I've met through ScubaBoard ... both those I've met in person and those I've only known through the forums. I come here for the social interaction, to share what I've learned with others, and to learn from others.

I care a great deal about the people of ScubaBoard ... and appreciate the fact that the board provides the medium through which we have been able to get to know each other ...

I originally came here to learn about dive gear. I keep coming back because of the people.
I enjoy reading the debates, and humor.
These days I pay most attention to what the squared away divers have to say.
Diving is much like skiing. The double black runs are always less crowded than the green and blue runs.
There's much to learn from the "double black" divers here......which are who I pay attention to.
It is always entertaining.
I like coming here. ;-)

Every level of diving is represented here on SB, from beginner to extremely advanced. From researching dive destinations and operators, to discussing photography or differing dive gear, and/or sharing experiences from snorkeling to cave, wreck and tech, there is a bit of something here for anyone who wishes to learn, teach or simply discuss aspects of the sport.

Like any social group there are going to be crack pots, and cranky pants, Prima Donnas and Princesses, Professors and students. Both the good and bad.

There are some people who are simply fun to share a few minutes out of the busy day with, some who have you rolling on the floor with their wit and antics, others you will gladly travel a long ways to dive with, while there might be others you would wish to avoid diving with at all cost.

I have met some great new friends here on ScubaBoard, discovered new parts of diving I now enjoy, met some awesome new dive buddies, and learned a great deal. I have also had a few disputes in the 5 or 6 years I have been visiting, but that is to be expected. Divers can be an extremely independent, and even opinionated group of people, and sometimes we are not going to see eye to eye.

I wandered in to SB, quite by accident, while researching a dive destination, but I stayed for all of the above reasons. It is a fun and educational group of fellow divers, who all share one thing with me, and that is a love for the world beneath the water. Even when we do not always agree on what is the best way to enjoy that underwater world, we have more in common with each other, than divers do with those who have no interest in that alternate world!

... Hopefully others have learned from me. I've met very good friends here. ScubaBoard is a useful communication tool.

Your article on how to choose a Scuba instructor is a great service to those considering Scuba certification.

This is in addition to your contribution of knowledge from your huge volume of messages that you post on ScubaBoard.

It shows.

Thank you for sharing your Gas Management paper with the ScubaBoard community and all the other knowledge you freely share with ScubaBOard community.

Happy New Year.

It seems that there is no diving-related question, no matter how obtuse, that can't get answered here by someone. The wisdom, knowledge, and experience available here, and the generosity of those who share it, are why I visit every day. I don't get to dive very often, but following along and occasionally joining in with the discussions here keeps me involved in a different way. I really appreciate that. It makes the gaps between trips much easier to manage. :)
