Kabrita Stoba has never done anything for me.

I will stick with Gibi's ribs!

Well sure, all the preceding reasons are good ones but what I like is how when you smile at a local on the island, you'll get a smile back--it's like they're letting you in on the secret. Anymore though we go back to see Benny & his family at Bonaire Town Homes. Talk about smiles! :eyebrow: // ww

That makes me recall the old notice I saw posted, I believe, at the Cracked Conch on Grand Cayman, actually instructing the Cayman locals to occasionally smile and not be too rude to tourists. On Bonaire, the locals seem naturally friendly, no training necessary. Now if only the Bonaire gubment could train the thieves to head over to GC where lots of wealthy people bring their jewels to wear while they sift through their offshore millions, leaving the less-affluent among us to enjoy not only friendliness and dive freedom, but a little peace of mind about leaving our "valuables" strewn about on the otherwise paradisical tiny island of Bonaire.

If you have never been Stay away! Crime infested, Small island not much to offer! No Taffic signals for God sakes. The resorts aren't even name brand cookie cutter hotels. The Dive Ops don't provide Divemasters to help you know when the Dive is over and guide you around. Too many resteraunts that don't serve the same Manufactured food. I don't think these people even know what a Drive through or Happy Meal is! Can you believe no STARBUCKS or McDonalds! No Freeways! All of you driving is done on these small roads that might have an Attack Donkey or goat wonder out in the middle. If any of this scares or worries you please go somewhere else!

I'm going back (4th trip)! For the opposite of the above.

You are so right. The place SUCKS big time - no MacDonald's no Burger King no Holiday Inn Express - why in the hell would anyone go there.

You are expected to be a responsible diver - no princess diving - no hand holding - no equipment being handled for you - how could anyone ever come back alive since they have to depend on themselves - O the HORROR of it all!

STAY AWAY - STAY AWAY !!!!

One downside about Bonaire is they don't allow dive knives, which is a pity if you accidentally run over one of those attack goats. Best procedure in such a case is to quickly remove its brain and liver, which can be traded to locals for "repossessed" dive gear, but without a dive knife and no way to safely store a knife in one's truck, it's a serious dilemma. For that very reason, I refrain from running over goats. Donkeys, on the other hand...

I've never seen or heard of a rule about no dive knives. In the STINAPA regulations they talk about no chem light sticks and no gloves, but there's nothing about knives that I could find. Plus, in the 2 trips we've taken to Bonaire, we've been stopped by STINAPA folks and they've never said anything about our knives....

Could you point me to the rule in STINAPA's regs?
