I have to create a blog for a social media course I am taking. I wanted to create a blog targeted to non-divers that showcases diving as it is. I figured a good first blog would be "why do we do it?"

So.... why do you dive?

In addition to my votes above, I also dive to escape the effects of gravity...I love that weightless flying feeling. I've also gotten better at non-verbal communication which has also helped (albeit just a tiny bit) with my career. I also dive because it generally makes me a more calm person. I'm a big type A personality, but diving forces me to zen out and focus only on my breath and what I see in front of me. I usually cannot stand being still and doing nothing. Even waiting in line for a min or two, I have to break out my phone. However, once I'm in the ocean, I can calmly just float there regardless of whether there's marine life in front of me or not.

I like to dive because I feel like I am exploring another world. It is like therapy for my mind and soul. Everything is slow pace and peaceful, there is always something new and different to see.

relaxing miniholiday ;) If you are underwater, even in your houselake you are not at home. So it is relaxing.
And I like to teach techdiving too.

Underwater is one of the few places where I feel "at home" like its some place I belong or meant to be.

See stuff, science/research, cave and to relax!!!

Also no email, phone calls, meetings or the other daily sh1t that drags me down.

Diving is a form of meditation for me, thats how I relax even on challenging technical dives!

I ticked everything except science (although with the project baseline dives there is that as well) :-)

Ticked the boxes for seeing critters, destressing and social but as NCNaiad has said, the weightlessness is a nice feeling as well.

As soon as I go underwater, I can feel all my stress sliding away and ,possibly because of the time I spent in the water swimming as a small child, I feel at home.

I love the exploration aspect, never knowing what is going to be swimming around behind the next rock. The curiosity of what bit of history might have been left on the bottom and exposed by last winter's storms.

Can't forget the zen like feeling of isolation from the rest of the world floating over an alien landscape.
