Although, when I first saw your topic title, my thought was, "Why dive the ocean? Because trying to dive desert sand isn't nearly as much fun!"

Au contraire...my friends and I dive Balmorhea, Texas (Yup, it's a desert near the Davis mountains) about once a year. Not as impressive as the Tarpon, but we do have a lot of fun.

I was through Balmorhea, Texas, close to 32 years ago. If I recall correctly, compared to Tucson, it was a lush paradise!

Desert lakes might be fun to dive; desert sand, not so much. :)
