Well like most of you I allways wanted to try diving but cept putting it of. (some day I'll do that) well on 9/11 (that was one of those events that make you look at your life) I looked around and I was almost 40 years old and had too may things yet untryed. so I talked the wife into getting our certs. We do live in Fl. and go to the keys at least once a year so she gave in and now we are both very happy we did. I can't wait till next week end, we have a dive planed down in jupiter. May get to try out my new AL100 if I can get it hydroed by then.(ok not "new" but new to me) RRdave

When I was really young live 8 or 9, my mom got her certification, and I fell in love with it then even though I hadn't ever breathed tanked air. as soon as I was old enough, 12, I got certified and addicted. No regrets here

As a kid in the 1970's I lived on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands I loved to snorkle while my father and older brother were divers. I went to Coz on vacation two years ago and was wondering why I never got my OWC. I signed for my OWC at my LDS and then I convinced my husband the following month to get his OWC

How many of you, that talked about watching the Cousteau Divers on TV, remember that they NEVER wore BC's in the early days???? It was always Jac Cousteau's standard that the divers learn to 'control their boyancy' through how much air they had in their lungs. Of course, every one of them was bone skinny and probably had a near negative boyancy anyway... When I started diving in the late 70's, we were using BC's that wouldn't be used by a snorkler today, a thing that slipped around you neck and snapped around you waist that had an inflation tube about 1/2" in diameter that you blew into to add air (never saw an auto inflator).

How times change....Now I'm thinking about a backplate and wing system for my first new rig....

Frankenmuth Tom, getting older everytime I tell one of these stories....

My first OW dive was July 4, 2000, off Pompano Beach, FL. My vision was always a problem. One eye doesn't work, the other is 20/40 with a contact lens. It took me 52 years too long to dive. Now I have had lens implant surgery and no more contacts or glasses. Now I can't find enough time to dive. What a rush that first OW dive was.

My brother did got cer. about 12 years ago. I would see him with his gear while I was a kid. Thinking it was so cool. Never did anything about it. Then I bought a boat and was talking to my wifes father about it. He dives and said he would take me but first I need to get certified. So the rest is history

I learned because I wanted to try something different.. Not because any of my friends are or the like.

I've always liked the water, just wanted to gain a better apprecation of the ocean.

I figured this would be the best way to gain that kind of experience.. Plus it gets me outside more, and into nature which I like to do anyways around the trails outside my house..

The wife made me do it! That's my story and I'm going to stick to it.

Was always something that I wanted to do, but always managed to "put off" to do something else.
Its one of the best things I've ever done and long may I continue to dive. My next aim is to get my wife certified.

I broke up with my boyfriend just a few days before my birthday :(. A diver friend of mine happened to be planning a trip and told me to stop moping and go with her. I did, and I got certified on my 26th birthday early this year.

My name is neve and I'm an addict. ;)

I'm doing my AOW this weekend! Woohoo!
