There was a guy on here, I don't know, maybe four years ago? claiming you could make over $100,000 a year teaching SCUBA. I'm pretty sure he's the one you're looking for.

$100,000 a year teaching scuba?

yah... i'm sure, if you're the private instructor to the Saudi Royal Family or something

Walter:
That was what the guy claimed.

I bet he had high standards. :D I'd imagine that the only way to make anywhere close to that kind of money is to crank through a huge volume of students.

Yeah, if I remember right his basic tenant was to join/needle his way into some executive club/group/church/other organization, get the head honcho hooked on SCUBA, then sell them on a 'corporate retreat.'

Something like that. Claimed he had been doing it successfully for years.

There may be some possibilities like that out there, but I could never be enough of a weasel to pull it off.

And you thought lawyers were slimy.

Oops, did I say that out loud, Andy? ;)

If I remember right he also claimed to have a staff of instructors that were basically slave-labor, paid in air, indebted to the company store, with signed non-compete agreements that kept them from working for anyone else, ever.

i'm sorry, i can't hear ... my ears are waterlogged from trying to teach 5 classes this week (gotta keep my pace up for that $100,000 goal!)

Well, that's a stupid thing to sign.

Does he run drug at night?? Picking bales of hay off the keys?? Has a dive flag, but really is diving for cocaine??

Actually, Andy, you might have an inroad others dream of...

The super of our dive team told me that he taught a very lucrative class a while back. His wife works in a law group and several of the lawyers decided to get certified. He did a 'private' class for them and charged 'em something like $500/person.

Addited: However, he has quite a resume'. Long-time rec. instructor, Navy dive school, runs a professional dive team, etc.
