who has bought things like BC and computers from leisurepro and how does their "warranty" hold up. is it worth saving the money of should i spend the extra 50 to 100 and get the real warranty??

I have bought from LP 4 times and have been very happy with the price & service. This only problem I've had has been my own fault. I bought a new regulator for my Girl for x-mass and didn't dive with it for about 4 months when she did the ambient pressure in the first stage was set to high and kept making her regulator pop. When we went to them to have it serviced they said since we didn't send in the warranty card that we were on our own.

Either way it was cheaper to save the shipping costs and hassles by just taking it the local dive shop for repairs.

Also one time I bought a BC hangar from them and they send the wrong color I called them about it and they sent me a new one and told me to keep the other one. “NOT BAD”

get the real one!!

If I have a problem with a BC or a reg, or a computer, and my LDS can't fix it right then, they would give me one to use!! With LP's warranty you have to send your stuff to them.

What are you using til you get it back??

Do a search.... you'll find lot's of opinions on Warranties, and on buying online.

PS. Welcome to the boards!! :)

Leisure Pro's failure to honor a warranty just because you did not send in a warranty card is bunk. You have a receipt, that establishes when it was sold. they have records of who they sold it to, so what is the problem. In my state, I don't think their story of no warranty card, no warranty would hold up in court.

But that also tells you what you are dealing with. I once worked as a department head for Sony. We were plauged with what is termed int he trade "gray market" goods. products not sold by authorized deals. Specifically goods purchased overseas and inportd into this country. They were Sony products, but not made for sale in this country and not sold by authorized deals. Warranty, none form Sony. You may find youself in the same situation if Leisuere Pro iis not an authorized dealer. I don't know if they are or not.

I buy my equipment from Sport Chalet (yes they ARE my local dive store, the next closest one is 5 miles past them and the owner keeps a messy store and suffers form attitude). When I turn in my equpment for annual service or warranty repaair I get a free rental of equipment to use until it comes back. I dive every week and that is important to me.

I purchased a Suunto Cobra with compass attachment from LP and saved over $300. over the LDS. The computer became defective after 3 months. I returned it to LP and had a new one within days after they received the defective one. Take that for what it's worth to you.:shades:

Even if they did hose me on adjusting the reg the 15 bucks I paid the guy at the shop was considerably less than the hundreds I feel that I’ve saved with LP.

I bought from LP before, but I would not buy an expensive BC, computer, or regulator. They tell up in front that they are not an authorized dealer, therefore you have no warranty with what you buy, but you can purchase LP’s own service contract or warranty and they would take care of the gear for you.

I'm not aware of having to "purchase" LP's contract or warranty....

I purchased a reg and a computer from them and received their warranty card in the package.

I've purchased 2 complete gear setups (bc + regs + suits + computers + travel cases + everything else) from LP. I've purchased in the store, over the phone (you might get a small break on "packages" this way!) and over the web. So far, everything was delivered on time and as expected (on those 2 setups, I saved well over $800, btw). One of the SPGs I bought stopped working after 1 dive. I called, got a return code, and had a new one back in under a week. Was a drag that it broke, but I have no reason to think it was anything other than a defective product, which could happen no matter where it was purchased.

I can see the arguments for dealing with a LDS (though NYC is close enough to me to consider LP almost local). For service and favors, I'm sure local is better- and I do buy stuff locally just to keep a relationship going. For me, though, it wasn't worth $800. I was willing to take the risk of dealing with equipment failures for this kind of savings and the good service I've come to expect from LP.
