If I breath my AL Legend Regular before going under water it makes a Whistling noise, my AL Octo doesn't do this. Is this normal? Once under water it doesn't do this.

As far as I know the Legend Octo is identical to the Legend 2nd stage.

Hard to tell for sure without looking at it, but the in versus out of water suggests a vibration some where that is dampened in water, which suggests it lies in the second stage.

The legend uses a shuttle valve with an o-ring on the end, it may lack lubrication, but that is a very unlikely source of the problem.

More likely the diaphragm may be vibrating slightly and the resulting resonance is heard above water, but is dampend below water. This would not be a problem and usually goes away over time.

A first stage problem is possible, although in that case the whistling tends to occur above and below the water. In a legend the resonance would most likely be caused by an inadequately lubricated seat carrier/stem o-ring.

I'd almost bet that it's a harmonic vibration in the second stage that is not possible underwater due to the density of the water. I wish I had a nickel for every second stage I've had come across my bench that made some kind of noise when I breathed through it.

Sometimes balanced pistion first stages (Scubapro Mk 20/25 and Atomics) will "sing" a nice mezzo soprano note if they're under-lubricated when rebuilt; I've had this happen a few times. I've never had any funny noises come from diaphragm first stages with the exception of the DVT valve on Aeris/Oceanic regs.

Hello, I have the same noise with my new scubapro Air2. Undewater works fine. Is this a problem? Should I contact the manufacturer? Thank you very much.

I got the whistle on my Poseidon Xstreams, haven't had it on my Legend yet ,but I'll sure watch out for it now.
