Last month I picked up a A640 and got the DC8 Case last week. I tested the case on a dive last weekend with no problems.
Next week I'm heading south to the Okinawa islands and I will give this set up a whirl.

On land the 640 is great! 'course its my first setup and first try, so if I can just tell that the pics are underwater, I'll be happy! ;)

Here is a A640 result from last night dive (Underwater mode). I am perfectly happy with it, both in and out of the water. I took Cannon DC8 Case to -41 meters with no problem.

Here's a couple I took with my A630 on Roatan last month. Hope the images show up, first time trying to post pictures.

Still haven't been able to try my camera out.:abadsmile We've been blown out the last week or so, but my promise holds, if I get some decent shots, I'll post them. By the way guys, those are great shots! Looks like the white balance is really good on the underwater mode. I'm looking forward to playing soon.

Note on the A710IS. I bought this camera last fall and have dove with it a few times and have used it for plane old family photos.

1. It is a great camera unless you are looking to shoot macro with the built in flash.

2. The flash is designed poorly and gets blocked by either the lens or the grip on the right side when taking a picture. Several of the pics that I took on land and underwater have had this problem. Never had this problem with my A70 setup either.

3. The underwater casing diffuser plate isn't as easy as it could be for removing and putting back on during a dive. You have to line it up just right and then get it to click in. I liked the A70 casing and diffuser much much better.

4. The buttons on the underwater case are too close together if you are wearing anything more than 3mm gloves. On my dive with it I kept accidentally hitting the buttons next to the one I meant to hit simply because they are put soooo closely together. Again, I never had this problem with my old A70 setup.

Personally I would go with something other than the A710IS if was going to do it again. A camera that can't even take even remotely evenly light macro shots with a flash? I don't have a clue where product testing was on this one.

Hey dude, I know what you mean about the built-in flash. I shot my A40 for a long time and always wondered why there was a dark shadow in the lower right corner of every picture I shot. Turns out the lens barrel blocked the flash. A buddy got me the Sea & Sea YS-25 for my birthday one year and I haven't looked back. It is a little bit more bulky, but the lighting is a million times better than the built-in. I am now the proud owner of six different strobe setups. The YS-25 still runs on the digital P&S, but I have a variety of others for my housed film SLR. I can't shoot without one strobe or another now.

(Psst....C'mon, try it, you'll like it. No one has to know!):D

Just got back from an extended trip to PNG, Solomon's and Fiji - 120 dives using a 640. Very happy with the results. I was on a LOB in PNG with Roger Steen and he was impressed with the quality. The 10 MP help when shooting Macro, you can crop and still get a sharp image (I took my MacBook along). However, there was a little leaking (Canon DC8 Housing), I tightened all the little screws and paid a lot of attention to the 0-ring and had no major problem. I started out with a Y-15, but it quit on me, so had a Y-27 sent up from Cairns. The Y-15 gave me excellent results, but the Y-27 gives you a bit more flexibility. The camera, strobe and my PCa Ikelites all use AA so having one charger was a bonus. It's the first digit U/W camera I've used, so can't comment on the others. I can say everyone who has seen the pics is impressed.
