Hey all, I have been searching through this subforum for various threads. I am looking to purchase new regulators as I get back into this hobby. I have been certified since 2001, but diving got sparse due to kids. I do mostly warm water diving and am looking for a set to last a long time. I have about 135 dives. I don't have a budget. Opinions before I purchase?

It’s a matter of preference I’d say

Does warm water diving imply just rec diving/nothing too deep (30m)?
You said no budget— how much are you _willing_ to put down tho?

Do you wanna eventually dive cold water?

Do you have a preference for diaphragm or piston regs?

I’d start by answering these questions first..

My (biased) choice within the SP ecosystem: mk19Evo with g260

But I also delve into old/discontinued regs, some favorites:
Mk5, mk10, AIR1, g250, Balanced Adjustable

A favorite among lot’s is the mk25evo 1st stage with either s620 or the g260
I have (theoretical) issues with the mk25, but it’s still a great performer

With all that said, don’t overthink it — with proper post-dive care/discipline (rinse, dry, hang..) anything should last you a long time

I have been to 130 ft. So I do plan to continue that.

No budget.

I don't know the difference.

They are all fine for general diving. Just take care of it and it will last at least 20 years.

SP's lineage is largely piston regs, with a design they have refined over 50+ years. I say stick to that (Mk 25) but you really can't go wrong with any of their offerings.

This question comes up often and I feel like its the same as asking "which Mercedes-Benz should I buy?"

The answer is, it depends on your needs.

But it also begs the question, why not consider BMW as well? Or Chevrolet? Or Ford? Or Rolls Royce?

The truth is there are many decent brands of regs out there that serve various niches at various price points with various levels of bells and/or whistles.

No doubt that Scubapro regs are fantastic. I might even be biased because all of my regs are Scubapro or Halcyon (which are rebranded Scubapro).

But that doesn't mean I wouldn't consider other brands if I were in the market.

I just find it odd that people often pick a brand and ask which product from that brand should I buy?

I think the better way to go about it would be to plot out your desired features and price range and compare various regs from different brands that fit your criteria.

I realize you might be asking this question because maybe you can get a pro deal on a certain brand but I see this question come up so often (especially with regards to SP) that I just have to believe it is the brand's marketing hype which leads divers to believe (falsely) that if its not SP its shite.

Fact is, a good reg from most reputable brands will last you a lifetime if it is maintained and serviced properly.

Another fact, most divers never push their regs anywhere near their performance capacity.

You may as well just buy the one you think is prettiest.

However, the short answer to your question...MK25 with G260, S620 or A700 with as many titanium and/or carbon bits as you can afford.

He wants a Mercedes not a Lada

There are a lot of good choices, from many brands but you may want to look at a MK 11evo/c370

1. MK17/C370 (latest version)

2. MK11/C370 (latest version)

4. If you want top end, then MK25 with any of their second stages.

5. MK19/S620Ti
