Anyone out there use one of the newer palms (Zire 72 or Palm Tungsten E) to sync with a Suunto dive computer? I've heard of people succesfully using Palm M130's, but the Tungsten E and zire 72 have a different connecter (with no serial option). Have any of you with either of these got your dive comp to sync with either PTDive or Aquadive? Or, even anyone with a Zire 71 for that matter..

I would really like to use a palm as a dive logbook, but would rather buy a current model than an old one...
Thanks...

I´d been using a palm m100 with aquadivelog , homemade interface and suunto mosquito .
Last month I bought a Zire 71 ,so I will have to make a new cable connector to the serial cable. There is a minor issue with the cable but I was told it will work.
I ´ve never seen a serial cable for the new models but there is a project for a USB homemade interface. Have you tried the FAQs on aquadivelog site ?

Funny you should say Zire 71 - as I have found a serial synch cable for the it on ebay - but never seen one for a Tubgsten E/E2...

Ihave looked on the aquadivelog site - but didn't quitw find what I was looking for (maybe I need to look harder...)

Hi Z
The 71 has both serial and USB cables , you just need a null modem adaptor to make the serial cable work with the dive computer interface (original or not). I bought an iconcept(generic) cable that offers both serial and USB connectors for zire71, m500 , m130 and so on . the 71 lacks system memory compared to newer models(16mb x 32mb ),it does not have bluetooth, but I´m really satisfied with its performance.
I haven´t seen serial cables available for zire 72 or tungsten E yet, but there are users on aquadivelog. I´ll post there to get some info.

I have a cable/software for my Palm Vx to do automobile diagnostics and was in the same boat a while back when looking to upgrade. Researching I came up with this:

http://www.pcables.com/cat2.html

I contacted the company that makes my cable/software to see if it was supported. They were pretty happy to buy one and test since they were getting lots of calls and didn't want to redsign their cable (works on PC's etc. that have serial ports). The results were positive and marked it as supported. I haven't bought one yet but will be when I finally upgrade to an E.

At the moment you are able to (indirectly) sync your Suunto log information via SharkPoint. You have to use the Windows version to import the Suunto log information and sync it to your Palm (inderect). They also are working on a direct import option, which will be released later this year. This new release will be able to sync via RS232, USB and later Suunto's dive watches with bluetooth.
I work with the SharkPoint Suunto import (indirect) and it works perfectly for me :eyebrow:

Bought myself z Zire 71, just gotta get myself the serial cable, but hopefully it'll work for the dive stuff and for fuel injection map uploads to my bike :)
SPSC the point (for me) was to be able to sync the palm and dive comp directly, so I don't have to worry about laptop stuff

thanks though :)

Another option is to get a SENSUS data recorder.

It records dive time, maximum depth, average depth, and temperature at varying sample intervals (I use 10 seconds), and downloads that information (plus a graph of depths and temps) to my Palm M500 via a Palm travel serial synch cable. Plug a serial cable into the other side of the connector (and a serial-USB adaptor), and I can download the same information to my PC.

True, you can't access the data during a dive, but it beats lugging around a laptop to be able to see a grarph of the dive.
