I will be doing TDI tec soon and I need to have a lift bag with more than 25lbs lift per my instructor. Thought id come on here to find out everyone's recommendations. He actually stated my SMB might work for class purposes but I feel maybe I actually want a lift bag anyways. I see there are mostly 50lb and 100lb bags. What size do you think I should get and what about brand? Thanks.

Are you going to be diving under the marker from the get-go... that's a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) or are you intending to do salvage work (lift bag); or are you going to deploy the marker at some point close to or during your ascent, which is a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB)? Since I suspect the latter, and looking at your location, I would suggest you need a marker that will be highly visible and tall enough to signal a support boat of your location even in big seas... Your choice should perhaps be governed by the buoy's length rather than its lift... I am a Hollis ambassador and therefore a little biased... but check out their website. :)

Also look at what's available in local shops... they should be able to help... as long as the staff dive.

I will be using it in my TDI deco procedures class....I believe to be used to hang off of for decompression to simulate an event if there was no down line to hang on to during deco.

I carry the XS Scuba lift bags with the duckbill antidump in the bottom.

Yea: that's exactly as I thought... you need a DSMB for your class... your instructor will require you to deploy it and hang under it for several minutes while either simulating or conducting staged decompression stops/gas switches/contingency measures.

See Warren's post above or try this for a suggestion Dive Alert Surface Marking Buoy - Orange | Dive Gear Express® if you do not want to go the Hollis route

I love that little Halcyon, but it's little. If you are doing this in the open ocean you might want the big one instead. But the big one is not so easy to deploy at shallow depths.

Yeah, I like my large DiveRite. On a 10 mile drift deco it's nice to know the boat can see it.
