Which GoPro or other device to get?

or .. check out the new contenders like the German Infinity if you dont mind me trolling. There seem to get some alternatives available to GoPro. Anyone got any experience with the CamoneTec thingy with any filters / underwater?Maurice

I have just recently heard of the Infinity and definitely like the perks it has to it, especially dual sd card slots, and built in lcd screen, and changeable lenses. Can't seem to find it anywhere over here in the states though or else I'd at least give it a try up against my Hero 2. Any idea if it has the same underwater blur problem as the GoPros? It appeared in your link that the housing for them had a curved lense as well which would mean that you would need some sort of flat lense modification for it, or possibly since they are quite similar, try to fit one of the already made GoPro fixes onto its housing. Sweet little camera though if they ever get them widely distributed and they live up to all the hype.

If you get to this in time and haven't decided on a camera just yet. REI has the GoPro Hero 2 Outdoor Package (with headmount and helmet strap) + the LCD backscreen for $299.99. That's the normal cost of the Hero 2 so basically you're getting the LCD backscreen for free which is normally $79.99 itself.

I just checked the specs on the GoPro website and the Outdoor package and Surf edition seem to differ. I thought these were the same cameras with different accessories, are they the same cameras?

All of the Hero 2 cameras are the same. The accessories are different. I have the Surf Edition and it has adhesive mounts that are waterproof. It also has the Floaty Back Door to keep your camera on the surface if it should fall overboard. The Outdoor Edition has helmet and head strap and different mounts. This camera is for skiing, hiking, etc. All cameras come with a waterproof housing and a skeleton back door which is open to allow for better use of the microphone.

I am making a handle for mine and using the surf mounts to attach to the handle of an old dive light. I will be able to hold it steadier for video. There is also a pivot mount included. I drilled a hole in the bottom of it and threaded a lanyard through it. Right now I just carry the camera with the pivot mount and lanyard attached and it works well. The purpose of the handle is so that I can also mount a light and take videos in the swim throughs and under ledges.

I bought the GoPro Hero 2 and the new GoPro Dive Housing and now I'm looking at this:
GoPro Dive Red Filter | GoPro Accessories, GoPro Filters and Lenses, GoPro Microphone

1. Doesn't this do the same thing as the Backscatter, without being able to change the filter underwater?
2. Does anyone have any experience with this brand filter?

Pretty much.

No experience with that brand. It simply looks like a piece of magic filter cut to fit the new housing. Without seeing it I am not sure how it mounts though. For $15 it would not hurt to give it a try as it is one of the only options for the go pro housing that is out.

OK, so I just looked around a little more, and saw how it installs. Duh.
