H2Andy:
i also wonder as to the "quality" of the light. i would be willing to bet that
the spectrum of a strobe is going to be designed for good photograpy, whereas
the spectrum of the Light Canon is probably not so designed

just a thought, i dont' know for sure

Well, I have both the D180 and the Light Cannon, and both are mounted on my housing for night dives. The Light Cannon is a heavy light, but if you do not have a photo dive buddy at night, guess its the best option. The quality of light from the light cannon is pretty good (dayight as compared with normal halogen). It will reduce the output of the strobe which may result in a more natural look. I suspect, though, that the light cannon alone may not be able to provide enough light for photography.

As far as light color is concerned the INON strobe are 5500 degrees kelvin, Sea & Sea are 5400-5600 kelvin, the sun is 5600 kelvin, and the UK light cannon is 6000 kelvin.

lol i love this board... there isn't a question that someone can't answer

except maybe, "why, if H2Andy is so handsome, are
women not lined up at this door?"

alas..

Just a little food for thought....With digital technology changing so rapidly, the outfit you have today may not be ideal for you in the future as your skills and expectations grow. You should think about purchasing a strobe that you can move up to the next level. Since the cost of the strobe will in all likelyhood be more than you paid for the camera and housing, choose carefully. I owned the Cannon and housing you have and was quite happy with it.

I need some recommendations on an external flash as well.

I have a Cannon S50 digital camera and the DCP-300 housing.

I'm trying to keep the cost below $600.

I had that combo.. still have the housing.. but the camera died due to a strange "Squirt" into the housing.. just a tiny bit of water, but enough to fry the camera.. :-( boo hoo.. now I'm thinking of going DSLR...

I'm a big fan of not using a strobe unless you're shooting into a cave, etc.
here's a gallery of s50 shots.. almost all of them with no strobe at all.
