Yo man.... & hello everybody...

As I am a new diver, I would like to get a dive comp for myself. However, there are bundles of dive comp available in the market and I would like some advice from you all in which dive comp is the best. I know..i know..all depends on the budget, but what i am more interested in, is the most reliable dive comp.

On the other hand, i don't wear watches. So, sunnto stingray is out of the questions.

Please advice.

Since you do not wear watches, does this mean you are completely adverse to getting a computer you wear on your wrist?

I use the Suunto Vyper and love it. Mine is wrist mounted, but you can probably put it in a boot and hang it off your tank if you wish. If I were goin to do that though, I'd make sure the comp. I did that with was air integrated.

rasta, i moved your thread here to get you some answers. welcome aboard, btw!!

also, might help if you give more details what types of dives you do, how often,
what you are looking for in terms of features that matter to you, etc... for others
to be able to advice.

enjoy!

I guess the first thing you need to determine is what kind of diving you'll be doing, and how often you plan on doing it. Once we know that, we can direct you a little better.

You'll also want to get a computer that grows with you as you become more advanced in your profiles -- no sense getting an air-only system if you have dreams of takinga nitrox course in the immediate future.

Everyone has their favorite. Pick on that you can get serviced locally, you will have to change batteries. If you are comfortable with self changeing then there are some models that allow you to change the battery yourself.

I like Suunto for recreational diving and any that will do the job for technical diving. You fill find that if you move into technical diving that most people prefer to have their gauges on their wrist for safety and streamlining purposes.

I don't like wearing watches either.

But my dive computer and Bottom timer and Compass are all wrist mounted.

I know where there at that way without having to feel around for them. I just bring my arm up.

But it did take some getting used to....

And I still don't wear watches. My cell phone has a clock in it. I use that.

I'm with you as well...
Don't like wearing watches. In teh water, I find it totally conveneinte to have my computer on my wrist, in warm water.

However, when diving dry, I don't like that because I tend to take my arms out of the suit between dives. I don't personaly mind leaving on a wetsuit. Gets to be a pain (taking the computer on and off), and once I forgot to take the comptuer out of my undergarment pocket. Got into the water, then realized my computer was inside my suit....

My computer (VT PRo) also has a retractable lanyard that allows me to clip it to a D ring.

Rasta,
You'll probably get an umpteen-kazillion responses here so I may as well add mine.

I dive with an Oceanic DataMax Pro Plus and love it.
It doesn't strap to your wrist so there is very little danger of you banging it into something if you're moving your wrist about.

It's air intergrated so that it gives you a very good analysis of your dive and greatly increases your bottom time in multi-level diving (More on this).

It is a console type so the hose attaching it to your 1st stage prevents it from getting dropped, etc.

It is VERY easy to read and has a back light feature for night dives or dark environments.

It is Nitrox compatible.

It has a log feature that captures in memory many of your last dives.

It's downloadable to your PC.

(The DataMax can be set up to take samples of your respiratory profile in different time increments so that it constantly monitors your depth/air comsumption/time and constantly reassesses your NDL at your current depth)

I like it. Bought one for my wife also - and I love her.

Yo man....
Thanks for advice and thanks H2Andy for reallocated me in a proper channel.

Fuh ! I kinda relief that i am not insane for not wearing watches for the past 10 years because some of you guys too are the same kind.

Anyway, since i am a new diver, planning to go higher level is not in my mind at the moment. The most i would go at the most at themoment will only be an Advanced Diver. I want to explore the ocean during the night because there when the actual colours of corals stand out and not forget about other creatures that roam at night. Correct me if i'm wrong. I guess you get a clearer picture of my needs...don't you GCHAPMAN ?

SCUBASEAN.....i don't mind hang a clock on neck if my life depends on it underwater. Getting a dive comp that reliable and durable is my major concern. I don't want to spend more money because of the features that allows me in the water as well on land or even space.

NINJAMUZO.... I am a technical guy in my working field. Unscrew 2 or 3 bolts doesn't bother me at all as long it works afterthat...hahahhahaa... I don't think dive comps nowdays are so fragile. As i said before...DURABILITY is what i am looking for.

MAVERICK & JACKFISH.....pls enrol at www.watches-less.org I am the president of the organization. HAHAHHAHAA..Your diving experiences are helpful.

VERDICT : Which dive comp has following capabilities ?
1. Durable and maintenance free ( Changing batteries are no big deal )
2. Easy to use and see as well / User friendly
3. Cheap
4. My life can depend on

very good criteria. i bought my Aeris Atmos2 based on almost
identical considerations. in addition, it can do Nitrox (something
you will almost certainly will grow into, trust me).

for less than $300.00, the Atmos2 is a proven, reliable, easy
to read, simple to use, adjustable computer that you will never
outgrow unless you start doing decompression/multi-gas diving.

also, you can change the batteries yourself, which you can
buy at Radio Shack for under $5.00.

also, the Atmos2 is a wrist computer, which is the easiest
and most entanglement-free way to mount your computer!
