depends on what kind of diving you want to do.

in general terms, both of them are great computers and you won't regret buying either of them. they are pretty conservative. this is not a bad thing, though.

Hi,

The Suunto Brand Computers are all good. There are also many other brands that are equally good. It will depend on the type of diving you plan on doing and how you wish to wear your computer i.e. wrist console or retractor. If you are looking for a computer that will double as a watch those you have chosen are nice. If you are looking for a dive computer strictly for diving then you can get a much less expensive computer with great features. Have you visited the Leisure Pro Website and looked at all the computers they have to offer? I recommended you do so and if you have questions I would be happy to answer them for you.

Sincerely,

Leisure Proski

I just started using a (used) Suunto Companion. It's been great, and pretty intuitive to use. Good luck getting geared up!

Computer models all have pros and cons. The Suuntos seem to be very reliable, but also tend to the very conservative side of the spectrum. Might want to make sure you check out this recent thread here first.

Extract of George Irvine's Lecture to BAUE on May 18, 2002

"Bruce Wienke's program (Suunto RGBM) is really close to being perfect as far as the shape (decompression profile), except it doesn't take into account human physiology."

If it's good enough for George, it's good enough for me.

Hi..
I would like to know which computer to get, Suunto?
I was told about the D4 & D6?

You might want to play a bit with the Dive Computers Research Tool (it contains info for 99 dive computers - so far); answer few basic questions (such as form factor or air integration) to get a first coarse selection, then use the table in the second screen to fine tune your selection and start comparing dive computers side by side.
For some of the dive computers in the tool there are videos too so you can see them in action.

If what your main aim simply a dive computer, then I'd say ditch D6 and get a D4. Sure the electronic compass looks nice, but then again, I'd rather go with a manual compass. In case of dive computer failure, you could still surface and still know your bearing.

In the Cobra 3 an added analog compass interferes with the digital. But in a wrist computer I don't see the disadvantage of having a digital compass. You can always carry an analog compass somewhere else.
