Hi all,
I am currently OW certified and i have most of my gear (lacking regs and a tank). I was wondering is it better to spend the money to get the rest of my gear or spend the money and advance my training and wait to get the rest of my gear. I am currently a college student with a very limited income. Thanks.

Congratulations: 2/3's of the world is waiting for you. You mentioned not having a regulator, so I'll guess and say you don't have a computer either. I'd get the reg, and pass on the tank, if you are going to be a tropical diver, they provide them, if you are going to be a local diver, only, then you might consider owning a tank. As far as education goes, get to the level at minimum of rescue diver, it will give you added confidence and enable you to take care of yourself in the water, as well as help a buddy and avoid the probability of him panicking and taking you with him. It's a great course to teach as well as have under your belt.

Get the gear.

And, BTW, since no one else has said it yet -----Congratulations on the Eagle Scout Award

What comes first - the chicken or the egg? It depends...if you want to see what kind of gear you'll like best, you'll complete the certs with other people's gear to test, etc. If you want to just jump into diving and be totally comfy with your own gear, by all means, go ahead and buy your own stuff. Sometimes at night I sit up and wonder how many people's mouths have been on those cert/rental regs...and what they looked like...

0-24 dives, college student... limited income...

Drop out of school, become an instructor... Get married... have kids, spend all your money clothing, feeding and raising (College trainging for them, not for you...) them...

Dude, rent the gear when you can... get the degree... Graduates earn more money than dropouts... You can always continue your underwater education after you have the diploma (experience talking... I chose the first option... but, I am a computer guy, so the education was less important than experience...)

Why would you post a picture of your mother to make the poor student spend his last two bits on gear instead of her? ;):rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

Oh jeez... gonna have nightmares over *this* one...

Get the gear... finish school... *then* continue the dive training...

Did you do rescue class with her? Do you have any pictures of the Mouth to Mouth practice! I now know why I carry a mask wherever I go! :shakehead::11:

And if you did why did you bring here back? I have body bagged some that looked better?
