I'm posting in desperation! I've ordered a RecSea S95 housing, lenses, Inon D2000 strobe, tray, arms etc and the dealer and I are stuck on the exact method to connect the strobe to the housing. I've been told its the "Inon D Optical Cable Type L" and as far as I can see, this has an L-connector for the Strobe end, but the other end looks bare - what happens at the RecSea end? The dealer can order an adapter called the "Strobe window mask adaptor" which is for the Fisheye FIX S90 housing, and I'm aware this and the new RecSea S95 are similar, but has anything changed around this area of the housing from one to the other? This mask adaptor looks like this:

Looks like the cable just pokes into the small hole (?!) What I don't know is whether the round piece that protrudes with the 2 large holes (Sea&Sea?) and 2 small holes (Inon?) is part of the strobe mask adaptor, or is a "cap" that I have to order with the Inon cable... The dealer hasn't put this config together before so we're in the dark... Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

PS I feel guilty because I was all set to order from UWdigcam website, there being no other way to get the RecSea here in the UK, but when I checked the CamerasUW website this week, the housing was available! All has to be ordered in, they don't have stock, but at least I get the warranties with everything...

Yes, the Inon D optical cable just has a ''cut-off'' end that is fits snugly as a ''friction-fit" into the ''cap'' you are referring to and shown in the photo you posted.

That "cap" screws in to the housing of my FIX S90 exactly the same way. Mine came with the FIX S90 housing. The Strobe Mask is purchased separately.

I plugged the holes that I was not using with pieces of small bungee to block of little rays of light from the strobe peeking through.

The optical cable connection is surprisingly simple but effective a s a friction-fit.

Fantastic, I didn't realise the housing came with the "cap" for the ends of the optical cables - so the strobe window mask is really just a flat piece that goes over the rest of the strobe window, with a corresponding hole for this cap to poke through. I'll relay this to the dealer, make sure the RecSea S95 has the same cap. And thanks for the tip about blocking the other small holes!

You just slip the bare end of the Inon cable directly into the two smaller holes in the FIX/Recsea flash window strobe cable adapter which should come with the housing. The flash window blocker is extra, some people use vinyl tape there instead.

Thanks Nemrod, ozziworld - I'm sure I read something about the cable end connection before during the (long...) FIX S90 discussion, but when it came to putting down money to buy the actual bits, my confidence crumbled and I couldn't find the info I needed! Its just I need everything for a trip in a month or so and really didn't want to be left with half a system because I forgot to order some bit of plastic or something :):D

I'm so looking forward to putting all this kit to use in the Maldives, though I have to be mindful my wife/buddy is neither a photographer nor a patient diver :) Camera arrives tomorrow so I have some time to get used to it before the housing etc arrives - fingers crossed its before my holiday! Then hopefully I can give some input on this forum rather than constantly asking questions ;)

Thanks all,
-Durwin
