Having looked at the poll and people who gave their votes, I have to find it funny that the user DiveRiteExpress chose DiveRite BP/W. :D

Hoping that other vendors will chime in. ;)

I have an OxyCheq Mach V 30# wing, and can't imagine anything much more streamlined.

30# Mach V Razor? Same shape but no outer shell hanging in the breeze (so to speak) and creating drag.

As for the OP's question, there's a ton of these threads about 'what's the best setup.'

For me, I have DSS backplates. I like the DSS feature of additional screw-on weight plates for their steel plate (obviously those are not ditchable though if that's what you want). Other than that I think a plate is pretty much a plate for normal size people (very small or big people may benefit from smaller/bigger/custom plates).

As for wings, I prefer long narrow donut wings all else equal. Bladderless wings (no protective outer shell) are more streamlined but less rugged. I still prefer them for single tank diving because I need less ruggedness for that as I'm lucky to get 50 dives in a year. A DM friend of mine put 500 dives on his bladderless wing in a year and it started leaking from basic wear - for hardcore divers like that, or people who just want some extra peace of mind, the inner bladder-outer shell design makes more sense. For doubles I use that kind of a wing too because it needs to be able to stand more abuse. (I use Oxycheq and Halcyon wings for singles and doubles, respectively).

As for harness go with hog. You can always add quick-release clips, padding, pockets, etc later if you are so inclined. X-shorts or glue-on thigh pockets are my preferred pocket solution.

I like a DiveRite al plate and an Oxycheq MachV wing for my singles rig.
For doubles I prefer a DiveRite steel plate and an Oxycheq Vertex 360 wing.

... and let's see what Hollis has to offer at the end of the month!

I am also looking for the same setup. The Dive-sports doesn't list the brand of backplate or wing that they are using and it comes out to $479 with the tank bands. I am looking at a Golem setup which has very good reviews on these boards. Right now it looks like its on sale for $390 including tank bands and a harness knife.

I have been diving that rig for about a year now and really like it.
