Regarding adequacy of lift: As long as I and my 7mil coldwater wetsuit are attached, no problem. In my case, were I to have taken my XXXL Ranger off in the water, straight to the bottom it would go, fully inflated (with E-119 tank and about 36 lbs of lead). In warm water I wear no neoprene and need only a fraction of the weight so no problem. Since I dive mostly cold with yards and yards of neoprene and I could imagine a scenario where I might need to take it off, I switched to the bladder that comes with the Tech (easy switch).

If I had to do it over with what I know now I would have gotten the LTD since I ended up having to buy the trim weight pockets anyway and I would have gotten the larger bladder to begin with (it is pricey as a separate). If you can wear a weight belt for some of your lead then there is probably no need for the larger bladder.

We have BCs up to XXL, but we have made BCs up to a XXXXXXXL (that's 7XL for those of you who don't want to count X's!)

Glad to hear that you liked product! The expandable waist panels make it really nice for folks like me, who seem to "grow" with age! ;)

Scott, say it isn't so. I thought that my Ranger was the bigest. (6' 350+)

I have been diving the same BC for 10 years and it works great!

I also dove the Knighthawk but it is not in the same league as the Ranger. The ranger easily packs small enough to take on a plane.

Now comparing the AIR ll and the Octo +, I like SP.

WOW... 7 X's... would make a person wonder if it were safe for that size of person to dive with... let alone how much weight they'd have to carry!

I dive with 8# with full wet suit and al80. Are you a Dr. knowing if someone is safe to dive or just an idiot?

She's neither, but she is very well qualified to ask a question like this, as she is either teaching or assisting with classes every week and has been for a looong time. When most of us see a diver this size, we have to ask ourselves "In a pinch, can I get him/her out of the water, or vice versa", as well as consider other risk factors. You have to admit, 7X is a BIG diver, and to not ask these questions of yourself is to not be prepared.

Ease up, dude...this was not a personal attack, just a simple observation made by a very competent person.

I went to ScubaToys today and had a chance to speak with Larry for a long time. He really took the time to go over everything with me and helped clear a bunch up without a hint of wearing his patience thin. I've been to a few LDS's now and none of them gave the straight forward scoop like Larry did. I still have a few things to get straight in my head before making a purchase now, but I feel confident of two things:

I will be buying a Zeagle and I will be buying it from ScubaToys.

Thanks again Larry!

Glad to hear that you were able to compare brands!

Regardless of what gear you use, the most important thing is that you just get out and dive!!!
