I've been away from the board for a few weeks because of...well, life in general. Am I that bad at searching, or is there no October dive report thread? Have we stopped reporting now that Pasley is home? (Welcome back, btw!)

In any event, I thought I'd post my results from Crescent today.

Comments:

Me and my buddy--first name 19cf--went to Crescent today to get in on the good conditions. They were very good. Overflowing with divers everywhere so I couldn't get a good parking spot--even at 12:30pm--good.

The sea was relatively calm, although a little choppy from the wind. Dropping at the end of the exposed reef revealed magnificent conditions beneath the surface. Life everywhere, viz for miles (well, not really), and low surge. My plan was to head to seal rock, punch some sea lions in the face, and then come back home.

Almost immediately after dropping I encountered a not-too-shy blue spotted octopus who was kind of enough to dance a bit for me.

Not long after that, as I headed around the outside of the inner Crescent reef, I came across a school of Barracuda that I estimate to have numbered more than 100 individuals. It was huge. It blocked out the sun. It had a lot of teeth. It didn't care that I was there, and just let me swim along and under it without too much trouble. Wow!

At seal rock, i was joined by 4 very playful sea lions who hung out with me for about 20 minutes, twirling, darting, sashaying, and just generally being cute. One of my favorite things about these animals is when they pause mid-water and just kind of float. You can almost see the look of sublime "hey, I'm floating!" pleasure on their faces. :)

I took my time heading in and hung out in the shallows for a bit. To my surprise, I came across a solitary Spanish Shawl nudibranch clinging to the "island" that sits just to the east of the main reef before you get out to the sand. These animals always look like they're struggling, holding on for dear life in the surge.

A fantastic dive. Had I not been freezing, I would have used up the remaining 1400 PSI I had in my 100. My CLX50/50 gets here this week, so I'll have no more of that starting next weekend. :) (!!!!!!!!!)

This can be the start of this months dive report. We are doing a dive Tomorrow morning (Sunday) at Staircase, just north of Leo Carrillo State Beach. I will post my report then, here?
