Hi all!!!!
I´m travelling to Roatan in May and i dont know where to stay.
Mi idea is to dive every morning and be the rest of the day on the beach.
Which place is better to stay ,west bay or west end? Does west bay has any nightlife (restaurants, bars, etc)?west bay and west end both have beaches?
Does anyone heard about bananarama in west bay?

Hope someone can help me.

thanks,

bati

I stayed at Bananarama a few weeks ago and it is a very nice stop. Dive op is great, rooms, restaurant and beach bar is very good also. The beach is beautiful. Unlike any other beaches I have found on Roatan. Night life is better on the West End then West Bay. Its only a 5 minute taxi ride to the West End. I would definitely stay at Bananarama again.

I concur, if you want a nice beach stay in West Bay. If you want nightlife stay in the West End.

Although Half Moon Bay Beach in the West End isn't a bad compromise - it's a fairly nice beach just not very wide (between the ocean and the road). Good sandy bottom offshore also. Sundowner's is right on the beach so you get a little of both. Website shows photos of the beach in front of their location - it's very similar nearby out to the point where the condos/ironshore starts.

All the small hotels/resorts are across the road in that area. So you'd need to look elsewhere if you want to be on the water. Anything just east of there (Cocolobo, Seagrape etc.) is on ironshore.

The other consideration is the sand fleas/flies. Minor problem on Roatan - Utila was a different story. Bring good repellent if you're planning to spend any amount of time laying on the sand.

Another option might be Luna Beach Resort. They have a beach and on-site diveop. It's kind of midway between West Bay and the West End - either are a short ride from there - they also have a water taxi service IIRC.

Give Lost Paradise Inn in the West End some consideration. They have a website. It is in a great location with a private little beach. I have stayed there 3 times and have enjoyed it each time.In my opinion the best of both worlds. Here is the e-mail address.

Lost Paradise Inn (paradise@metro-red.hn)

Enjoy.
