Hi,

I'll be arriving at Nadi on October 31st. I've come to the conclusion that Taveuni is the best place for diving, so I'll go there (please correct me if I am wrong, I can still change plans).
I find it pretty hard to find some reasonable priced single accommodation on the island, I'd like to avoid the honeymoon resorts and the 10-bed dorms, all tips are greatly appreciated on this.

Apart from that I need a buddy as well, so if you are at Taveuni beginning of November why not drop me a line :14:

Thanks,
ikkes

It is hard to understand why people burn their hands on their vacations. You can easily get good advice from a dive travel agent, and if you book with them you get all those benefits as compared to booking direct. I know once my friend had this experience of a real bad service from one of these resorts because the resort did not took much care as they did not expect you to return there again, where as these travel agents send so many people there, and they cannot afford to loose their business, so they treat people well too. I am not promoting any business, but it is good to book via dive travel specialist, you get their advice and you do not pay for their services. I have always been booking via these guys Dive Fish Snow Travel. They are really good, lot of info on their website. I hope it helps

Thanks Divesp, I've sent them an email.

As for the question why "burn my hands on my vacation".

In the Netherlands I did find exactly one organisation where I could book Taveuni, and they offered exactly one accommodation :( .
The UK company I booked my RTW trip with did not have any Taveuni accommodation.

As I am not familiar with any dive travel agencies abroad and I don't want to end up, regretting my choice or loosing my money over the WWW, I decided to figure it out myself.

Maybe you understand it a bit better now ;)

I understand what you mean, it is hard to find nice decent ones, but if you are looking for a dive travel agency for south pacific look for whether they are IATA registered and how long they have been in business, things like this really matters. I know these guys are here for quite some time now. I would love to give my personal assurance for them. Hey, are you keen in getting news and deals for south pacific and want to win a liveaboard diving holiday in solomons ? They have a competition at the moment but if you use the url below I get extra entries for that same holiday.

anyone else reading this forum are welcome to earn me some extra entries and get yourself in to the draw as well. Hey I would love to go on a livaboard holiday.

Hi ikkes,

I just got back from a honeymoon on Matagi (right next door to Taveuni) and spent a little bit of time hiking on Taveuni. I'm going to post a full trip report at some point, but thought I'd chime in here since you haven't gotten much response.

Fiji in general and the Taveuni area in particular are abesolutely awesome - you will have a great time. Unfortuantely, I was on my honeymoon and the places I stayed at were pretty full of couples. One place I heard good things about but did not visit is Garden Island Resort. I think it may be along the lines you're looking for. Also, my very favorite thing during the 3 weeks we spent in Fiji was 5 nights on the Tui Tai. It's a cool old "sailboat" that travels around northeast Fiji with a dive op, kayaks and mountain bikes for the 20 or so guests on board. We hit some great dive sites and visited a lot of other places I never would have gotten to see as a tourist. I'd say about half of those on board were singles and there was only one other honeymoon couple on board (which is really saying something in Fiji). It's a bit spendy, though.

Oh, and I don't normally use someone to book my trips, but did so for this one and was very happy with my travel agent, Wendy at Outdoor Travel Adventures. She's a fellow diver, has spent extensive time in Fiji and gave us outstanding service.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Definitely, Garden Island Resort...
laid back, no pressure whether as a single or a couple, good value

Hey ikkes,
I'm a student in NZ and am trying to get to Taveuni, I already have a ticket to Nadi and definetly want to dive in the northern isles. I am probably going to be staying in one of the two hostels as being a student i'm poor as. Any way it would be cool to get a buddy for some shore dives, as i don't do well above water for too long and can't afford boat diving everyday. I'll be getting in around the 28th of oct and leaving around the 5 or 6 of Nov. drop me a line if your interested in meeting up.

hey bombadierbob
If you want to stay real cheap on Taveuni you can camp right on the beach at Beverlys Beach Camp Ground. Its real basic but looks fun and sociable for solo travelers. It's also right next to a couple of dive shops so you can dive straight off the shore there.

Divefishsnow lost my inquiry, so by the time they came with a reply I already booked meself. Garden Island Resort it is, I've booked 5 days boat diving with AquaTrek and am thinking of joining them at Beqa as well for the shark feeding.

I am sorry to hear that about them. They are generally pretty good in these sort of things. I did checked with them on this and they said, they had some sort of technical issue and hence had a delay in replying to few inquiries. But good luck in your trip anyway, I bet you had good read through their website and read about accommodation. I find their site quite informative and them very helpful.
