I won't know until December 1st if I'll be able to take New Years week off, so I'm trying to do some pre-planning so I can pull the trigger when I have a firm answer.

Already many places are sold out, so we're going to have to work with what is left.

My husband and I have been to West End for one day on a cruise and dove with West End Divers and had a great time. We went back the following year (2012) and stayed for a week at Cocoview.

We're thinking of maybe trying the West End again for New Years. If we wanted to dive with West End Divers again, where should we stay? We need something clean and safe and conveniently located. Budget is not a huge concern but of course saving money is always a good thing. We're not planning to rent a car.

Also, if you have any other location suggestions, please let me know as we are not fixed on Roatan. We looked into LCBR (never been there but heard good things) and they are booked. Ramon's Village in Belize is also booked.

Cocolobo is a little upscale, quiet, and has a pool. It's pretty close to the ironshore cliffs so you hear the waves at night. I rent the house next door so I've seen it in person - it's as nice as it looks. They only do breakfast (maybe lunch?) so you'd walk to the West End for dinner - about 5mins. away. http://www.cocolobo.com/

Maybe farther than you'd want to walk with gear - it's on the point to the east of Half Moon Bay. West End being on the opposite end of Half Moon Bay. If you're not set on them Coconut Tree Divers or Native Sons are closer. Both have bigger boats.
We can arrange diving with any of the dive shops in West End and have good relations with all – but if you don’t know who to dive with, we work particularly closely with: Sun Divers, West End Divers and Ocean Connections.
One reason to pick an operator with a larger boat is that if a "Norther" blows thru they'll move the boats south and shuttle you over. Some of the panga ops. just shut down. We walked our gear over to Coconut Tree the first day and left it there all week. I'd start to clean it and they'd make me go have a beer on their deck while they finished, dried and stored it. Good operation.

For some perspective it's the three green roofed buildings seen in the lower left corner of this shot. The dock midpoint in the (Half Moon) Bay is Coconut Tree's right where the road enters the West End. West End Divers is on the east side of the next bay over.

Cocolobo is just below where it says Seagrape:

I stayed at Land's End in roatan when I was there, they have a bar, salt water pool, hammocks on the water front and great snorkeling right off their rocky beach. Its right next to Cocolobo. Best Hotel in Roatan <---- weird. I linked it to their page, and it auto populates to that phrase. I dont know if its the Best Hotel in Roatan, but I did enjoy it.

Cocolobo | The perfect place to dive and relax?

+1 for Cocolobo. The rooms face the iron shore, nothing between you and the ocean. Absolutely beautiful

I loved Posada Arco Iris, very nice room with fridge, nice bathroom, two beds in a beautiful jungle setting and each room has a nice big porch with a table and chairs and a hammock. Best thing is it has it's own spot on the beach and you can use the lounge chairs and kayaks! It is located behind the Argentinian Grill and right next to Yahongreh Café for the BEST cup of coffee, they are open at 7am and you can take your cup and sit in a lounge chair on the beach....miss that! For the price ($38/night) it was EXCELLENT! You can also get a suite with a kitchen and more rooms which was an excellent value also!

Splash Inn, right next to WED.. Clean, WiFi, super inexpensive, on site security after it gets dark..

If you want a really good dive OP, consider West Bay Divers.

West Bay Divers | PADI 5 Star Dive Centre located on Roatan

West Bay Divers - West Bay - Reviews of West Bay Divers - TripAdvisor

They are a true valet service dive OP. Just show up and get on and off of the boat to go diving. They put on, take off, clean and store your gear for you. They dock their boat nightly right in front of Splash Inn in West End and you can get on the boat there each morning if you like. Otherwise, West Bay Divers has some accomodation deals set up with a few places in West Bay. You'll pay more to stay in West Bay, but staying in West Bay is a bit more upscale than West End. Excellent beach, snorkling and atmosphere in West Bay. It just depends on how much money you're willing to spend and exactly what your looking for. In the event of bad weather, West Bay Divers, moves their boat to the other side of the island and will transport you to Flowers Bay so you can get on the boat there and avoid the rough seas.
