Missed this post originally but it holds true probably for many who wish for a vacation with some diving and not hard core 4-5 dive a day type thing. Always nice to hear the reference of going "home" when that home is not a resort or gated community but rather one of the earliest villages of the island. Afterall, the local church is said to be one of the oldest buildings on the island and its probably only 100 feet from the sea. This spring we went back for a couple weeks of diving again. We rented through VRBO (The Blue House) which was a 7 min drive over the island near Flowers Bay. We rented a car and drove over to Coconut Tree every morning for a couple dives, late lunch in some terrific restaurants in West End, another dive or a break back 'home' for the afternoon...back over for dinner (or cook your own) and a night dive or two. It was a terrific routine. The rental car was handy and not that expensive although it was a beater and at times we wondered if it would make it over the hill. .
As far as the beater rental cars, they are my choice, I prefer to scribble on the rental forms all the dings and dents and when done it looks like a kindergarten coloring book this helps make it less likely for one or two little dings to show up on a damage report in the future.
Bethesda Methodist Church,
One of if not the oldest building on the island.
The entrance faces West because the main community was West
before storms took it away and then many moved closer to the upcomming Coxen hole .
