I have used the search, but I am new so forgive me if this has been covered. I found some ideas on where to go diving when you have a non-diving travel partner, but what I need to know is this:

Where would be a good place for me to go take a cave diving program while leaving my non-diving wife behind on land. I would also like a place that will not cost me a fortune in travel or accomodations either.

I have some preconceptions, but have never been to Florida or Mexico, so my ideas may not be accurate. Is most of the cave training in Florida done in the back woods? Sitting in a cabin all day would not be the greatest vacation for her. My wife would be comfortable on the beach at the Mayan Riviera, but that is too far from the cave diving in mexico isn't it?

I would appreciate any ideas!

Don't let her sit in the woods alone. A busy beach or hotel pool would be better. or just leave her home.

Mexico - park her at a resort in Puerto Aventuras and do your diving with Zero-G.

I know nothing about the area, but that's what I'd try to sell my wife if I were seeking cave training in Mexico =)

Well if your looking at Florida Google High Springs, Florida. Its kinda backwoods but there are more State Parks there than just about anywhere. If she likes the beach Google Jackson Blue in Marianna, Florida. Its only a 45 inute drive to Panama City Beach. I would vote for leaving her home.

Florida cave diving is in rural places. Gainesville, FL is the largest town in that area called "Cave Country". Gainesville has America's top public university, but is not a usual vacation destination.

With the cabana boy, Raoul.

Why would she ever leave you?

The area in Mexico where you do the cave training is actually very nice! There are lots of resorts with sandy beaches, yummy food, and not far from the caves. However, it is down in Mexico, so a bit more travel and $$$ than Florida.

The places in Florida are definitely in the jungle... I went to Univ of Fla in Gainesville and loved it, but that is me. ;) Not much in the area as far as resorts. Jacksonville, Daytona Bch, and Orlando are the nearest cities. Definitely less $$$ for that trip, depending on if you stay in cave area and wife stays at a resort elsewhere by herself. I would think that would be boring. Most people I know who have done the cave training have gone to Fla for the training but they all go to Yucatan for diving now.
