I understand the c-7070 is discontinued and wonder if anyone on this board knows of a source still selling them new? Thanks in advance.

Just do a google search and you find a bunch. I just bought an 8080 from ButterflyPhoto because they had the best price.

As of today 12/1/2005, the C-7070 is still current product on the Olympus website:

As of about 9/2005, the C-8080 an archived product:

My suppositions: they discontinued the C-8080 because it was cannibalizing sales of their DSLRs, which are in the same price range for the body but have more potential for add-on sales of lenses. When the C-7070 thus became the new flagship model of the point and shoot line, Olympus increased the price of the C-7070 by $150. Their thinking was probably that Olympus loyalists would support the brand, and buy the high end models, thus supplying revenue for further R+D of next generation models. Next year they must have a 10-12mp model in the line to remain competitive, because Nikon and Canon are already there.
