I did my IDC with Philippe Yersin through Eastern Academy SCUBA education. (EASE) They are a PADI CDC. I found the prices to be competitive, meals are included as is accomodation.

There is bunk bed style housing. I was fortunate and had a room to myself. The course director was excellent and I enjoyed the format of the program.

It is a converted house. The pool is in the backyard, a very healthy size. Here is the link:

They have an IDC a month. I also liked the fact the course director has a lot of experience delivering instructor training.

Just some of my thoughts.....Good luck!

All the best,

Paul

I have an IDC starting on monday in cancun if you want..

Hi,

You can get advice on IDC's all over the world at www.choosingidc.com, we run them every month here in Utila, Honduras, cheap accommodation and living costs, about $600 all in per month, awesome diving and a lot of Whale sharks recently, plus a great quality extended IDC. Check out our websites www.utiladivecenter.com and www.goproutila.com for more details.

Or you can PM me for specifics.

Frankly, there are many variables when looking for a good Course Director & IDC. Your first step should be to consult any Instructors you admire or with whom you have a good relationship to get some references from them. Then interview the CD to see if your goals & styles mesh. Ask questions like:

- what is your IDC Grad's success rate at the IE?
- what are your Instructors doing now?
- what Specialties/Con Ed courses do you offer?

Etc., etc., etc.

It's much more than price & location for the IDC... it's who is running it & how it's run.

Pax,

thanks for the feedback!
Hi guys... thanks to everyone.
Andy... cheers for the info about your place in Utila... I heard great things of Utila when I was working in Phuket... also I love the ChoosingIDC site, quite interesting idea.
Submariner: Thanks for the tips..
Alcina, at the moment I'm backpacking in Australia, but soon heading to south america, so I will do it in OZ or Central America.
Would love to do it in the red sea but to far away...

One on Ningaloo Reef in middle of May and again in mid September :D

No offense but I check http://www.exmouthdive.com/ and it looks really poor. No info about how you run the IDC, who the Course Director is....

From a candidate perspective... it simply does't look that you guys put a lot of work in promoting your IDC... I simply can't find any info... :11:

I mean... I just checked www.goproutila.com and the info is quite amazing :crafty:

Anyway, thanks to answer... but the first image I get from you is not the most IDC focus posible...

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. Our new web page is still under construction but that is no excuse. I'll have a look at some other web sites, like the one you mention, and see if we would like to incorporate some of those ideas as we continue to reconstruct things. I'd love to hear via PM or here any ideas that you would have re what you would like to see on a web page as a prospective candidate.

We don't heavily promote our IDCs at this time. Mostly it is word of mouth - we have one spot still available for May's IDC. Our goal isn't to be the biggest or attract the most candidates. We run a small, friendly, personal course with access to all of our training and staff - not just your IDC staff members.

I'd be happy to talk to you about it if you are thinking West Coast. Or there are many operators on the East Coast that offer the IDC (and some in Perth, too!) and IE throughout the year.
